Garbolino Mosella Silverfish Festival 2008 |
|
 |
 |
It is once again time for our Silver fish festival, even though the park closed at the beginning of November we open especially for this week for our final even of the season. This year we have changed the format of the festival and it is now a pure Silver Fish festival as unlike in previous years we will not be allowing F1’s, Crucians or Goldfish. There are 56 anglers and they are split into 5 sections and will be fishing in rotation on Pollawyn, Jennys, Trelawney, Pollawyn/Jennys & Twin Oaks. It is a 5-day festival so we go by our usual format and allow a dropped result; so watch this space for the week’s results.
Day One
The anglers have been split into their 5 sections so they know the order in which they will be fishing, it is a change for many and we are not entirely sure of how the festival will run as we are using some new venues and only allowing silvers.'A' Section Pollawyn
Our Garbolino festival sponsor Darren Cox started his festival on a high with a lake and section win, Darren was on peg 20 and caught skimmers at 13 meters with caster for a weight of 30lb 7oz. White Acres’ very own Clint Elliott was second on the lake with 25lb 6oz, Clint was on peg 32 and fished the long pole with maggots and caster over groundbait. Third on the lake was Steve Sanders on peg 12, Steve had a weight of 20lb 10oz of skimmers caught on the long pole with maggot.
Section Winners
Darren Cox 6 points 30lb 7oz
Dan Varney 6 points 17lb 8oz
'B' Section Jennys
Jennys has always been a favourite lake in recent years on this festival, but with F1’s not being allowed we didn’t really know how it would fish. The weights today have surprised us with consistent weights across the section. Today’s lake winner was Harry Billing on peg 15, Harry had a weight of 33lb 9oz caught on caster long and short over groundbait. Skip McCabe was second with 32lb 14oz, Skip caught on the long pole on the deck with caster, maggot and worm from peg 2. Clive Carter was on peg 16 and was third on the lake with 31lb 9oz, Clive caught at 5 meters with caster and at 13 meters with worm.
Section Winners
Harry Billing 6 points 33lb 9oz
Skip McCabe 6 points 32lb 14oz
'C' Section Trelawney
The weights were fairly consistent today on Trelawney, there were a couple of exceptions with low weights but the majority were tight across the sections with less than a lb making the difference when it came to points. Steven Barraclough was today’s lake winner, Steve was on peg 22 and caught on caster shallow and on the deck for a weight of 28lb 11oz. Second went to Simon Fry with 23lb 8oz, Simon was on peg 8 and caught on caster on the deck at 7 meters and then later on caught shallow. Mike O’Gorman was third on the lake, Mike caught on the deck at 8 meters with maggot over groundbait from peg 29 for a weight of 22lb 14oz.
Section Winners
Steve Barraclough 6 points 28lb 11oz
Simon Fry 6 points 23lb 8oz
'D' Section
D section started off on our split lake section today, with 6 pegs on Pollawyn high bank and 6 pegs on Sycamore. The lake winner today came from Sycamore where Callum Dicks was on peg 12 and had a weight of 44lb 3oz, Callum caught shallow on his top six with caster. Jim Smith was on Pollawyn peg 29 and was second overall, Jim caught on the long pole with caster, worm and maggot for a weight of 31lb 5oz. Tommy Pickering was on Pollawyn 27 and had the next best weight with 29lb 7oz, Tommy caught on the deck.
Section Winners
Callum Dicks 6 points 44lb 3oz
Jim Smith 6 points 31lb 5oz
'E' Section
E section set off into the “un-known” today as it is the first time Twin Oaks had been used for this festival, it is a prolific carp venue and throws up some of the best weights on the complex but we have also noticed some great silvers in the lake which is why we are trying it out this year. The weights today were good across both sides of the lakes and better than many expected. Andy Pollard was the lake winner on peg 12, Andy caught at 13 meters on the deck with caster for a weight of 27lb 6oz. Second on peg 2 was Ricky Teal, Ricky had a weight of 25lb 12oz caught on the pole with caster. Third was Gary Webber with 23lb 5oz, Gary caught on maggot and caster on the deck and then shallow later on from peg 8.
Section Winners
Andy Pollard 6 points 27lb 6oz
Andy Partridge 6 points 20lb 4oz
So that was day one of the festival and here is how the first top ten looks.

So we have our ten anglers that have started the festival off with maximum points and amongst them are a couple of previous Garbolino festival winners, will we be seeing any of these names in the final top ten on Friday, stay tuned for daily updates
Day Two
It was a wet and cold night down here in Cornwall and with a lot of cold water going into the lakes, it is true about what they say about “what a different a day makes”. There were still plenty of nice bags of silvers but some of the anglers did struggle for bites.
'A' Section Jennys
Jennys still fished well today with really good weights from across the whole of the section. Steve Hemmingray was todays lake winner on peg 21, Steve caught a good bag of roach on caster at 5 meters for a weight of 38lb 2oz. Second was Darren Cox on peg 8 who again picked up a section win, Darren had a weight of 32lb 12oz caught mostly on the bottom but then had a few shallow later on, he had a net of mainly roach with a few bonus skimmers. Clint Elliott was third with 29lb 6oz; Clint caught skimmers on the long pole over groundbait from peg 5.
Section Winners
Steve Hemmingray 6 points 38lb 2oz
Darren Cox 6 points 32lb 12oz
'B' Section
TrelawneyThe weights were a bit lower on Trelawney today especially in the area where the cold water flows into the lake. Cameron Hughes was today’s lake winner with 22lb 7oz; Cameron was on peg 25 and caught on his top 6 with maggots over groundbait on the deck. Second went to Harry Billing with 21lb 1oz, Harry caught on caster at 14 meters from peg 29. Timmy Rowe was on peg 8 and took third with 20lb 6oz, Timmy caught at 11 meters with caster.
Section Winners
Cameron Hughes 6 points 22lb 7oz
Timmy Rowe 6 points 2olb 6oz
'C' Section
Pollawyn/SycamoreSycamore dominated the big weights today across the two lakes with the anglers catching over 150lbs of silvers between the 6 of them. The weights were inconsistent across the pegs on Pollawyn showing the fish are not feeding from one specific area. Mike O’Gorman was our lake winner today on Sycamore peg 2, Mike caught at 13 meters with worm & maggot over caster for a weight of 33lb 5oz. It was a Joint weight for second with both Chris Martin & Steven Barraclough both weighing in with 27lb 2oz. Chris was on peg 10 and caught on maggot over groundbait and Steve caught on caster at 11.5 meters on the deck and shallow from peg 14.
Section Winners
Mike O’Gorman 6 points 33lb 5oz
Richie Hull 6 points 24lb 10oz
'D'
Section Twin Oaks
With its exposed location Twin Oaks is one of the lakes most prone to fishing conditions being determined by the weather, this showed today with the wet and cold of the night having an effect on todays weights. Tommy Pickering was todays lake winner, Tommy was on peg 32 and caught 136 roach on the deck with caster at 11 meters weighing in with 19lb 8oz. Second on the lake was Chris Watson with 17lb 10oz, Chris was on peg 12 and caught on chopped worm and caster at 12 meters. Jim Smith was on peg 8 and took third with 14lb 3oz, Jim caught at 11 meters with chopped worm, casters and maggot.
Section Winners
Tommy Pickering 6 points 19lb 8oz
Chris Watson 6 points 17lb 10oz
'E' Section Pollawyn
It was a day of mixed fortunes for the anglers on Pollawyn today and again there seems to be no consistency with the pegs. Gary Hamilton was today lake winner with 16lb 5oz; Gary was on peg 20 and caught skimmers over groundbait on the pole. Second on peg 14 was Andy Pollard, Andy caught on the pole at 13 meters with casters for a weight of 13lb 6oz. Ricky Teal caught on caster to take third from peg 34 with 10lb 5oz.So that was day two and here is how the leader board looks.

So Darren is still leading the pack on maximum points but as you can see the weights are exceptionally close and there are currently 12 anglers who all have 11 points so things couldn’t be closer. This looks to be another exciting festival so come back tomorrow for the latest results.
Regards, Kirsty
Day Three
So we have reached the half way point on the festival and it has been another exciting day, it was a milder evening down here and this had shown as the weights have improved today. By this stage in the week we have an inkling of some of those that will be picking up winning envelopes at the end of the week but nothing is certain, with two days left and the dropped result coming into play who knows what could happen.

Tony Morton was the lake winner on peg 21, Tony had a weight of 37lb 12 and caught on maggots at 5 meters. Second with 28lb 4oz was Pete Randle, Pete caught at 11 meters with chopped worm from peg 15. Alan Hodgeon was third on peg 6 with 23lb 11oz, Alan caught on maggots at 11 meters.
Section Winners
Tony Morton 6 points 37lb 12oz
Alan Hodgeon 6 points 23lb 11oz
'D' Section Trelawney
Trelawney has seen some good weights and some not so good weight this week, and today we have seen the best weight of the week so far with the majority of the section weighing in with 20lb plus. Mark Warren was the lake winner with 28lb 8oz; Wozzer was on peg 26 and caught at 5 meters with caster. Second on peg 25 was Callum Dicks, Callum caught short with caster for a weight of 26lb 12oz.

Second on peg 12 was Ricky Teal, Ricky caught down the edge with caster for a weight of 20lb 4oz. Third was Paul Glenfield on peg 4 with 18lb 2oz.
Section Winners
Andy Pollard 6 points 45lb 13oz
Will Raison 6 points 17lb 5oz
So that was the final day of the festival and a massive thank you to all the anglers that took part in the festival. Huge congratulations to all of the winners especially Callum, Steve and Clive, this has been our closest ever result in the festival. Once again thank you too out sponsors Garbolino and Mosella who both provided some excellent prizes for our top ten anglers. This year was such a success that we have made the decision to keep F1’s out of the festival keeping it a proper silver fish festival. So thank you once again to all the anglers and our sponsors and congratulations once again to the winners.
