Gold Winners Week
Festival 2008 |
|
 |
 |
This is a mini festival that is fished over 3 days where we invite all gold & rover match winners and those festival anglers that won their lake on a Wednesday back for a free weeks holiday to fish against each other. This year 50 anglers are returning and they will be fishing on Jennys, Trelawney & both sides of Twin Oaks.
Day One
This year we are doing a random section draw on day one, so the anglers choose their own rotation. All of the pegs for the lakes were put into the bag so not only were they drawing their first days peg but also the order they would fish. With every one of the anglers being a match winner the festival win could come from anyone so it seems as if we are set for an exciting week.
A Section Trelawney
So A section start off their festival campaign on Trelawney, the lake has been fishing fairly hard but the weights have been very close. Howard Green was the lake winner on peg 31 with 57lb 11oz, Howard caught on banded pellets. Second on the lake and also picking up the other section maximum points was Jamie Wilde, Jamie caught up in the water with pellet from peg 12 for a weight of 55lb 2oz. Richie Hull was third on the lake with 45lb, Richie was on peg 24 and caught on the bomb & pellet. Steve Nadin was on peg 19 and had the next best weight with 37lb 7oz, Steve fished for silvers using caster but managed to bag 5 carp on this method and the rest of his net was made up of silvers.
Howard Green 57lb 11oz peg 31
Jamie Wilde 55lb 2oz peg 12
B Section Twin Oaks
The low number lake has been used a lot recently and has fished consistently well but this is the first time the high numbers have been fished for a while, the lake is looking pretty coloured where the fish have been churning up the lake but we do not know what weights to expect. Once again the low numbers fished really well with Geoff Edwards on peg 16 taking the lake win, Geoff fished on the feeder with pellets for a weight of 84lb 11oz. Second on the lake was Jamie Smith, Jamie had a weight of 72lb 8oz caught on the waggler with pellet from peg 14. Charlie Shaw on peg 21 was third with 56lb 14oz, Charlie caught in the margins with pellet & corn. Austin Williams was on peg 2 and had the next best weight with 49lb 12oz, Austin caught on the bomb & pellet.
Geoff Edwards 84lb 11oz peg 16
Charlie Shaw 56lb 15oz peg 21
C Section Jennys
Jennys fished great in the Parkdean Masters final on Saturday so the anglers had an idea of what sort of weights to expect today. James Dent was today’s lake winner with an impressive weight of 86lb 3oz, James was on peg 18 and caught consistently throughout the match on the shallow pole at 14.5 meters netting approximately 70 fish.
Stewart Lister took second on the lake; Stewart was on peg 19 and caught on the long pole shallow with 6 mil pellets for a weight of 58lb 12oz. Third was Dave Cain with 55lb 2oz, Dave was on peg 4 and caught at 14 meters shallow with pellet. The next best weight came from Ashley Clements on peg 9, Ashley caught long on the deck with pellets but also caught a few fish shallow and weighed in with 47lb 1oz.
James Dent 86lb 3oz peg 18
Dave Cain 55lb 2oz peg 4So that was day one and here is how the top ten looks. The anglers now know what lakes they will be fishing next and what sort of weights are to be expected, as the weeks goes on the forecast is due to change so we can only hope this doesn’t affect the fishing too much.

So that was day two and we have a new leader, the points are extremely close so it is all going to come down to the wire on the final day of the festival.
Day Three
So we have reached the final day and with the points looking as they do it could be all change today. I don’t have a great deal of catch information for today but here is how the last day of the festival fished.
A Section Jennys
The weights on Jennys have been consistent across the festival. Jamie Wilde was the lake winner today on peg 5, Jamie had a weight of 54lb 11oz caught on the pole with pellet. Richard Count was second on the lake with 44lb 6oz from peg 11. Tony Wynnick was on peg 19 and was third on the lake with 43lb 12oz. Richie Hull was on peg 2 and had the next best weight on the lake with 43lb 1oz.
Jamie Wilde 54lb 11oz peg 5
Richard Count 44lb 6oz peg 11
B Section Trelawney
The weights on Trelawney today were the lowest they have been for a while, I think the pressure of the Preston Festival and now the winners week have finally taken its toll and the lake is ready to be rested. Michael Gorman was today’s lake winner with 54lb 15oz, Michael was on peg 7. Rob Wiltshire on peg 9 was second with 28lb 8oz. Third with 25lb 8oz was Eric Yeomans on peg 27 and the next best weight came from Roger Parnell on peg 24 with 13lb 8oz.
Michael Gorman 54lb 15oz peg 7
Eric Yeomans 25lb 8oz peg 27
C Section Twin Oaks
The high numbers on Twin Oaks have once again produced some great results. Today’s lake winner was James Dent on peg 25, James caught on the feeder with micro pellets tight across for a weight of 79lb 13oz. On peg 10 Ashley Clements was second, Ashley caught 6 fish on the pole and the rest on the pellet feeder for a weight of 51lb 5oz. Third with 43lb 10oz was Jim Blades on peg 16 and the next best weight came from Dave Rudge on peg 16 with 35lb 3oz.

James Dent has taken the 2008 title with his fellow travelling partner taking second, and the battle for third place could not have been closer. Our winner James walks away with a cool £1000, Ashley picks up £600 and Richie in third takes home £400, all the monies in this festival are sponsored by Parkdean Holidays.
We would like to express our congratulations to all of the anglers especially the winners and our thanks to all for making this such an enjoyable week.
Cheers, Kirsty |
