Preston Festival 2011
  Fishing Information call 01726 862519

With another successful festival over and done with we are now on to our most prestigious festival of the year the Preston Innovations Festival which leads to the £25,000 Parkdean Masters Grand Final.

This is a qualification only event and all of the entrants have either been highly placed in one of our previous festivals throughout the year or have won one of our weekly residents matches so you can imagine the calibre of anglers taking part.

The sections being used this week are Pollawyn, Twin Oaks & Trewaters, Trelawney & Acorn & Python, Porth and Bolingey. It has been a cold and damp week and although the temperature as upped slightly from last week it is still pretty miserable out there.

We will be closely watching the top 24 over the next few days to see who is in with a chance of making this years big money final, each day we will be bringing you the latest update so watch this space!

Day One

The draw is brought forward to 9am on the first day of the festival and the anglers are all grouped together to go over the rules and the format for the week. After last weeks results most of the same lakes are in so the anglers have been following the form so have an idea of a good draw for them.

With Clint's speech over it was on with the draw, read on for the action from day one.

A Section Pollawyn
Pollawyn was hard last week and today was no different in fact it was more of a struggle for the anglers with not many of the bigger fish showing and some anglers struggling for bites. This transitional period, especially as it dropped from warm to cold so quickly, always has an affect on the fishing but fingers crossed once it gets settled we should see the catches increase across the week. Alex Murray was the lake winner today on peg 20, Alex caught on the waggler with maggot and the short pole with meat for a weight of 49lb 3oz. Second with 33lb 2oz was Kevin Wadge, Kevin was on peg 28 and caught on the waggler with pellet and the bomb & pellet. Third went to Mark Harper with his three fish coming in at 32lb 4oz which included a 21lb mirror, Mark was on peg 6 and caught 1 on the method and 2 on the pole with worms over groundbait. The next best weight was 30lb 9oz and this came from Nathan Watson on peg 52, Nathan caught on the pole to the island with worm.

Section Winners
Alex Murray peg 20 9 points 49lb 3oz
Mark Harper peg 6 9 points 32lb 4oz
Nathan Watson peg 52 9 points 30lb 9oz
Jake Dye peg 15 9 points 28lb 2oz

B Section Trewaters/ Twin Oaks
Twin Oaks has been split with Trewaters for this festival as these venues seem more capable of competing with each other at the moment. The high numbers on Twin oaks are fishing consistently with weights coming from across the board and on the lower numbers they are still struggling in the early pegs with the far end pegs producing the better weights. It was a good day over on Trewaters with both lakes producing fair weights. The lake winner today on Twin Oaks peg 14 was Jamie Parkhouse, Jamie caught on the pole at 5 meters with meat for a weight of 136lb 6oz. Second was Danny Wynn, Danny weighed in with 106lb 1oz caught at 5 meters on meat from Twin Oaks peg 16. On Trewaters peg 21 Martyn Howard weighed in with 72lb 12oz to take third, Martyn caught a few on the method early on and the switched to the small groundbait cage feeder where he had a few more fish. Tony Butler on Twin Oaks peg 12 had the next best weight with 68lb 13oz, Tony caught on the pellet waggler and short on the pole with pellet.

Section Winners
Jamie Parkhouse peg 14(TO) 9 points 136lb 6oz
Martyn Howard peg 21(TW) 9 points 72lb 12oz
Paul Burton peg 35(TO) 9 points 68lb 12oz
Barry Parker peg 39(TW) 9 points 57lb 3oz

C Section Trewaters/Acorn/Canal
This is another split section on the festival and the lakes have been slightly changed around from what was sent out in the format. Trelawney has been fishing harder we felt it could compete better with Python and Acorn which is why we have made the change, Python & Acorn are new venues to some of the anglers and as it was not in last week we shall just have to see what happens this week. Acorn peg 15 provided the winner today with James Hawkins weighing in with 80lb 12oz, James caught on the method feeder with pellet. Second was Lee Edwards, Lee was on Python peg 13 and caught pretty much all of his fish on the method for a weight of 56lb 13oz. Third was Chris Downs on Python peg 12 with 54lb 4oz, Chris caught all F1's and one goldfish on the method feeder with maggot. The next best weight came from Steve Clark on Python peg 15 with 51lb 14oz, Steve caught on the method with maggot. The best weight on Trelawney was 44lb 5oz and this came from Darren Cox on peg 23, Darren caught 6 carp at 14.5 meters on worm.

Section Winners
James Hawkins peg 15(A) 9 points 80lb 12oz

Darren Cox peg 23(T) 9 points 44lb 5oz
Andy Pounder peg 18(T) 9 points 43lb 3oz

D Section Porth
Porth fished well last week with the water still being coloured we are expecting some more good results this week. A lot more of the bigger bream have been showing and today was no exception with another record breaking festival catch on this venue. The lake winner today with the biggest festival catch recorded on Porth was Mal Proctor; Mal was on peg 71 and weighed in with a staggering 98lb 14oz caught on the method with boilie. On peg 17 Steve Sanders was second, Steve caught on the boilie for a weight of 27lb 10oz. Third with 25lb 3oz was Paul Christie, Paul was on peg 16 and caught on the groundbait method at 40 yards out with white boilie on the hook. The next best weight was 20lb 8oz and this came from Nick Speed on peg 74, Nick caught on the groundbait feeder with worm.

Section Winners
Mal Proctor peg 71 9 points 98lb 14oz
Steve Sanders peg 17 9 points 27lb 10oz
Chris Kitchin peg 90 9 points 15lb 3oz
Chris Jenkinson peg 40 9 points 14lb 10oz

E Section Bolingey
With Bolingey having a rest over the weekend it should be back on form today, the lakes have been flushed through over the weekend to preserve the quality of the water as meat has been used on the venue for the first time since the spring. There were good weights for overall and sections today with close back up weights across the lake also. Tony Watling was today's lake winner, Tony was on peg 7 and caught 35 carp on the 6 meter pole with meat for total weight of 138lb 2oz. Second with 130lb 2oz was Andy Bennett, Andy caught on the short pole with meat from peg 3. Adam Richards peg 27 9 points 109lb 14oz
Steve Ringer peg 42 9 points 105lb 8oz

These are the anglers that have started their week on a high and will be hoping for more section wins throughout the week, as we always see with the festival results any thing can happen over the next few days and we are predicting another close week, join us each day for the latest top 24 - will we see any of the above names in the final on Saturday?

Day Two

After a good start for some it was fingers crossed for another good draw but for the others that did not have the best of first days it was knuckle down and get on with it to give them a chance of getting to Saturdays final. It was a damp day but milder than it had been previously with the temperature up a couple of degrees although some of the venues were a lot gustier.

A Section Trewaters/ Twin Oaks
Good weights coming from both lakes and they are competing fairly with each other. Over on Trewaters the better weights are still coming from the middle lake but it is still close on the bottom lake. The Better weights today came from the low side of Twin Oaks but it was more consistent weights on the back lake. The lake winner today with 100lb 11oz was Andy Leathers; Andy caught on the method with pellet and on the pole at 5 meters with meat from Twin Oaks peg 14. Second on Twin oaks peg 16 was Paul Holland, Paul caught on the method & pellet with maggot on the hook for a weight of 91lb 13oz. Third was James Dent, James was on Trewaters peg 21 and weighed in with 80lb 13oz caught tight across on the method with pellet. B Section Trelawney/Acorn/Python
Good weights from all three venues today with Trelawney fishing better than it has in previous matches. The weights on both Acorn and Python were both better today also so hopefully these will improve as the week goes on with some feed going in. On Trelawney peg 31 Derek Willan took the lake win with 64lb 13oz, Derek caught all F1's at 16 meters on the pole with chopped worm and caster. Jamie Parkhouse was second, Jamie had three shallow with pellet but the rest of his fish were at 5 meters on meat for a weight of 64lb 12oz from Trelawney peg 26. Third was Mick Kearns on Acorn peg 7, Mick caught on the pole at 6 meters for a weight of 59lb 15oz. Tony Curd was on Trelawney peg 32 and had the next best weight with 55lb 8oz, Tony caught on the pole at 14.5 meters with worm. Tony Butler peg 9(PY) 9 points 51lb 13oz

C Section Porth
The bream are still active at Porth and we are once again seeing some top results, as we are having these high end weights from the venue we are tending to overlook the fact that the rest of the anglers that have not drawn the out and out flier bream pegs are still managing to put together reasonable nets of small fish but without the bonus bream they are down the ranks when it come to the section points. Steven Homewood was the lake winner today with another impressive haul of bream for a weight of 81lb 11oz; Steven was on peg 16 and caught on the method feeder with corn on the hook. Second on peg 71 was Lee Edwards, Lee caught on the method feeder for a weight of 58lb 3oz. Third with 38lb 10oz was Darren Cox, Darren caught on the method with white boilie from peg 19. D Section Bolingey
There were a few stand out weights on Bolingey today with the anglers sacking up on the impressive carp from this venue. The back up weights were close across the board but there were a few anglers in each section that did have a harder day and struggled to build up any form of weight. Richie Hull was todays lake winner with the best weight so far this week 164lb 12oz, Richie was on peg 25 and caught on the method, at 14.5 meters and down the edge with meat. Second was Tom Wallis, Tom caught on the pole with worm over groundbait for a weight of 153lb 12oz from peg 29.Simon Fry weighed in with 116lb 2oz to take third, Simon was on peg 17 and caught on the method with pellet and at 5 meters with meat. Section Winners
Richie Hull peg 25 9 points 164lb 12oz
Tom Wallis peg 29 9 points 153lb 12oz
Simon Fry peg 17 9 points 116lb 2oz
Neil Machin peg 6 9 points 115lb 8oz

E Section Pollawyn
It was a slightly better day today with a few more fish being caught across the lake and even though some of the anglers struggled for carp the skimmers were showing a bit more today which boosted some weights for the anglers. In some sections the weights were a lot closer than others when it came to points. The back arm section is still fishing very hard with that one landed bonus carp making all the difference but some of the anglers are simply not getting the bites on the silvers let alone the bigger fish. Andy Bennett was today's lake winner on peg 16 with 66lb 11oz, Andy caught on the pole at 5 meters with meat. Richard Bacon was on peg 27 and weighed in with 57lb 3oz to take second; Richard caught on the pellet waggler and had 4 fish on the long pole with meat. Third was Mark Fox, Mark was on peg 26 and caught on the deck at 14 meters with worm for a weight of 51lb 3oz. The next best weight was 41lb 8oz and this came from Ant King on peg 17, Ant caught 3 fish on the method with boilie, 1 on the pole at 5 meters with meat and a few shimmers.

Section Winners
Andy Bennett peg 15 9 points 66lb 11oz
Richard Bacon peg 27 9 points 57lb 3oz
Bob Giles peg 1 9 points 40lb 7oz
Jason Le Bosquet peg 47 9 points 32lb 3oz

There is just the one angler on maximum points which is very unusual for this stage in the festival but with the standard of anglers in each section they will be taking points from each other in each match.

This time last year there was 5 anglers and maximum points and 15 points would not have put you in the top 24 at this stage, with these low points it looks like we are going to a very close festival and it is far from over for some anglers yet.

Join us tomorrow to find out if the Welsh International has managed another section win to boost his chances of a place in Saturdays final plus a possible festival win.

At the mid way point we should have a rough idea of some names we can expect in the line up but we shall have to see what happens in the match action from day three.

Don't forget Saturday's final is free of charge and open to the public so if you fancy coming down to watch the final we have special rates for the weekend or just come along for the day. Food and beers available all day.

Day Three

Mid way point already and things are once again shaping up to be another close festival.

As the only angler going into day three on maximum points Lee Edwards had some work to do to keep up this impressive winning streak, the points are very close and even though it is not an overly high scoring festival the results are tight.

No one is yet guaranteed a place in the final as it could all change over the next couple of days, read on to see what today's action has done to the overall results.

A Section Trelawney/Acorn/Python
All three lakes have fished reasonably well today and even though it was a bit of a struggle on the low section of Trelawney it was reasonably close and the sections were also close on Python & Acorn, Today's lake winner with the biggest weight of the festival so far on Trelawney was Andy Geldart with 120lb 4oz, Andy was on Trelawney peg 25 and caught on the pole at 16 meters both shallow and on the bottom with pellet. Andy Dargue peg 12(T) 9 points 51lb 3oz

B Section Porth
It was a good day on Porth with the bream still showing, although there were not as many caught today they are still coming from round the same areas and in the other sections the weights are close when it comes to points. It was a much better day on Pollawyn today and although a few anglers struggled and the section weights were up across the lakes even in the hard back arm, as well as carp a few more skimmers are showing to boost the weights. Neil Machin peg 2 9 points 50lb 12oz
Scott Russell peg 38 9 points 28lb

E Section Trewaters/Twin Oaks
With hardly a breath of wind over at Twin Oaks the low numbered pegs once again struggled but the middle and far of the lake fished well as did the back lake where the weights were fairly consistent across the section. Trewaters is still competing well and this is proving to be a very fair split section of lakes. Richard Bacon was today's lake winner with 142lb 7oz, Richard was On Twin Oaks peg 12 and had a load of fish on the pellet waggler and a few on the short pole with meat. Second was gareth Malham on Twin Oaks peg 16, Gareth caught on the method feeder and the short pole with meat for a weight of 127lb 2oz. There are now no anglers on maximum points which is unusual for a festival but make things even more exciting. There are still anglers that can finish on maximum points excluding their dropper so the game is well and truly not over yet!

Points were won and lost across all the sections yesterday and with these close results and two days left no go no one can afford to take a step back and assume they have a guaranteed place in the final.

Join us tomorrow for the latest set of results which will give us a small inside look at the line up for Saturday but with the points and weights this close we are definitely going to see a very close overall result.

Day Four

Exciting times ahead as we go in to the penultimate day. By the end of today we will have a firm idea of a number of anglers that will be in the final so there a few people that will be hoping the draw bag is kind to them today.

Another damp start to the day but the temperature is gradually creeping up again making it a fairly muggy day with a few drizzly showers. Let's see what the lakes did today read on for the latest updates.

A Section Porth
The bream seem to have backed off slightly and are spread out across more of the pegs now, although they are still a few more being caught on the same pegs the rest of the sections are looking interesting with some better weights coming from across the board. Lee Kerry on the “flier” peg 71 was the match winner today; Lee caught bream on the method for a weight of 27lb 6oz. Second just a few ounces behind was Lee Thornton, Lee caught 7 bream on the method for a weight of 27lb 3oz from peg 17. Andy Nelson on peg 39 weighed in with 18lb 12oz to take third, Andy caught on the pole with chopped worm. The next best weight was 17lb 9oz from Alex Murray; Alex caught skimmers on the pole at 8 meters with chopped worm and caster from peg 32.

Section Winners
Lee Kerry peg 71 9 points 27lb 6oz
Lee Thornton peg 17 9 points 27lb 3oz
Andy Nelson peg 39 9 points 18lb 12oz
James Stones peg 81 9 points 12lb 11oz

B Section Bolingey
And still the weights keep coming from Bolingey with over half the anglers weighing in with 75lb plus and we have also had the biggest weight of the week recorded so far. At the higher end of the leader board the points are creeping up which has definitely secured some of these anglers a podium position and place in the final but as we go down to 24th place the points are very spread out which is going to make for a very exciting final day.

There are still a couple of anglers that could jump back up the ranks if they do the business on the final day but there are also a few that will slip out of the standings if they don't pick up high section points.

This is once again going to come down to a photo finish and the dropped result is likely to pay more of a key part than it has on previous festivals.

Join us tomorrow to find out who is the White Acres Preston Innovations Festival champion, who are top ten prize winners are and which names will be in the line up of the top 24 anglers for the 2011 Parkdean Masters Final.

Wow what a race to the finish!

It was such a close race that some anglers didn’t have a clue if they had made the final or not, with such a shift of points on the final day there were a few disappointed anglers who though they might have had a shot at the £25,000 with a 29 point finish but this was not to be.

We would like to thank all the anglers that have fished this week and congratulate them all especially our top three of Andy Geldart, Darren Cox and Lee Edwards, it is another strong top ten and a very strong final line up with 5 former Parkdean Masters and at least 12 former finalists, tomorrow is going to be a very exciting day – will we have a new Master or will someone do the double for the first time?

Once again a massive thank you to Preston Innovations for the continued support and generous sponsorship of the festival, Preston Innovations provided fantastic prizes for the top ten anglers and their representative Tommy Pickering was here to hand out the prizes.

So this is the end of the main 2011 festivals at White Acres and the climax will be tomorrows Parkdean Masters £25,000 grand final. Join us soon for the update on the final.

Thank you again to all the anglers that have fished this week and to all of you that have been avidly following the daily reports.

Cheers, Kirsty
