Milo Festival 2011
Fishing Information call 01726 862519
We are on to our final big festival of the spring and this week welcomes 180 anglers to the park to fish the 2011 White Acres Milo Festival. This is always one of the most popular spring festivals and even the day before the festival we were taking calls to see if anyone had dropped out!
The lakes being used this week are Pollawyn, Trelawney/Twin Oaks, Trewaters/Canal/Acorn, Porth & Bolingey. Trewaters was due to be one whole section this festival but as it fished so well with fewer people on in previous festival we made a last minute to split it with Canal & Acorn.
On the first few festivals of the year and on our recent residents matches we have seen some great results but on the week leading up to the festival we have seen a change in the weather so fingers crossed it won't have too much of a negative affect. The arrival weekend of the festival has seen mixed weather with glorious sunshine one minute and the torrential rain the next - with the occasional burst of thunder!
The anglers are aware of their rotation prior to arrival so for some it is a busy weekend on the bank practising whilst for others it is a busier weekend in the bar catching up with old friends! We would like to take this opportunity to thank Milo for sponsoring the festival and read on for all the action from day one!
Day One
The draw for the first day of the festival always takes a bit longer so all the anglers are grouped into the club at 9am to go through the rules and format of the festival. We have changed a few things for this weeks festival so for those anglers not as eagle-eyed as some this was explained as for some it would make a difference depending on their draw. With everything clarified it was time for the off and the first dip of the week into the bag of dreams.
It was a terrible start to the day with the anglers facing torrential rain, thunder and lightening as they were setting up but by the time the match was started at noon the rain had stopped and the sun came out but it was still a very chilly and windy day, with the wind hampering the anglers on most of the lakes as it was constantly changing direction and really hindering presentation.
A Section Pollawyn
It was a tougher start to the week on Pollawyn today with the anglers being battered by the wind, the rain over the weekend and on the lead up to the all-in has also not helped matters. The lake winner today with 110lb 15oz was Alan Scotthorne, Alan was on peg 34 and caught on the method at the start of the match and then caught a few on the pole. Tony Butler on peg 20, Tony caught on the method and straight lead with pellet for a weight of 89lb 15oz. James Holmes was third, James caught on the bomb & pellet for a weight of 78lb 13oz from peg 30. Paul Hanlon on peg 27 had the next best weight with 78lb 2oz, Paul caught on the method and bomb with meat and pellet.
Section Winners
Alan Scotthorne peg 34 9 points 110lb 15oz
Tony Butler peg 20 9 points 89lb 15oz
Tommy Hiller peg 23 9 points 51lb 7oz
Pemb Wrighting peg 10 9 points 37lb 2oz
B Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Despite neither lakes producing massive weights today they still fished reasonably across all of the sections although the anglers did comment that one minute the fish were there and they got in to catching regularly but then the next minute the fish backed right off and they struggled for a bite. Stuart Bracey was the match winner today on Trelawney peg 14, Stuart caught on the method feeder with pellet and meat on the hook and had a weight of 98lb 12oz. Second with 89lb was Leigh Hodgkinson, Leigh was on Twin Oaks peg 27 and caught on the method with micros. Gary Webber on Trelawney peg 25 weighed in with 81lb 6oz to take third, Gary caught on the pellet feeder at the start of the match but had three lumps late on down the edge on meat. Colin Mullholland weighed in with 79lb 14oz which was the next best weight, Colin caught on the pole at 6 meters with meat and down the edge on worm from Twin Oaks peg 8.
Section Winners

Leigh Hodgkinson peg 27 9 points 89lb
Gary Webber peg 25 9 points 81lb 6oz

C Section Trewaters/Canal/Acorn
In a last minute change to the format we have combined Trewaters with Acorn & Canal for this festival to make the fishing as good as possible, both Acorn & Trewaters have been fishing well recently and although Canal is unlikely to compete as well for the overall weights, it will still be close for the section points. John Harvey took the lake win today on Acorn peg 15, John caught on the method with pellet and down the edge on worm for a total weight of 139lb 7oz. Second went to Timmy Rowe with 96lb 3oz, Timmy caught on the pole down the edge with meat from Acorn peg 11. Neil Machin was third, Neil was on Trewaters peg 39 and caught on the short pole with paste for a weight of 94lb 3oz. Simon Foster on Trewaters peg 29 had the next best weight with 79lb 4oz, Simon caught on the method and on the tip with corn & meat. The best weight on Canal was 52lb 3oz ad this came from Shaun Barnett on peg 10, Shaun caught mainly down the edge for the first few hours on worm and casters and then had a few late on shallow up in the water.

John Harvey peg 15(A) 9 points 139lb 7oz
Neil Machin peg 39(T) 9 points 94lb 3oz
Simon Foster peg 29(T) 9 points 79lb 4oz
Shaun Barnett peg 10( C) 9 points 52lb 3oz
D Section Porth
It was a bit of a different day for the anglers on Porth today with a number of bream showing across the lake instead of the smaller skimmers, for those that were on the fish we saw some good weights but for others it was a struggle without the smaller fish showing. The lake winner today with a great weight of 43lb 9oz was Mick Kearns, Mick was on peg 71 and had a great net of bream caught on the method with corn & boilie. Lee Edwards on peg 84 was second, Lee caught on the feeder with various hook baits for a weight of 25lb 7oz which was a mixture of bream and eels! Third went to Kevin Goldenburg, Kevin weighed in with 24lb 12oz which he caught on the pole at 11meters with worm from peg 78. Mike Barlow on peg 82 had the next best weight on the lake with 23lb 11oz.

Lee Edwards peg 84 9 points 25lb 7oz
Steve Potter peg 32 9 points 17lb 6oz
Mark Harper peg 16 9 points 14lb 13oz
E Section Bolingey
It was a fairly tough start of the festival for the anglers on Bolingey today and although we saw some top overall weights there were not as many back up weights with the fish seeming to have backed of slightly after all the cold rain we have had. Adam Richards took the lake win today with 172lb 12oz; Adam was on peg 27 and caught shallow under the bridge with meat. Second was Derek Hammond on peg 22, Derek caught down the edge on pellet and weighed in with 148lb 8oz. Third with 137lb 6oz was Harry Billing, Harry caught on the method with micros from peg 26. The next best weight came from peg 23 where Pete Goodman weighed in with 124lb 8oz; Pete caught one a bung at the start of the match but it slowed down when he switched to fishing meat short.

That was the first day of the festival and we have our first batch of section winners which form the overall results. With one day over with the anglers now have more of an idea of the lake's form so will know the areas they would like to draw in for the rest of the week.
The weather is still set to be slightly unsettled for the next few days so we shall have to see how this affects things, join us tomorrow for the latest updates and to see if anyone is on maximum points.
Day Two
It was once again a cold and blowey day but thankfully reasonably dry apart from a couple of showers, towards the latter stage of the match the wind eased right off but it is still a couple of degrees cooler.
Day one saw some good weights and some of the lakes fishing a bit harder so we shall have to see how things pan out today.
Read on to find out if anyone has manages to stay on maximum points.
A Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Twin Oaks fished better today with good weights coming from both lakes but it was a bit harder on Trelawney, even though the results were close there were only a couple of stand out weights. Pemb Wrighting weighed in with 100lb 7oz to take second, Pemb was on Twin Oaks peg 8 and caught on the method feeder. Third was Pete Jones, Pete was on Twin Oaks peg 12 and caught on the method & pellet waggler for a weight of 88lb 1oz. Trewaters fished well today top weights across both lakes and good back up weights. It was also a reasonable day on Acorn where we saw a top overall result and then close weights for section points. Canal also fished better today with weights better than yesterday across the board. Today's lake winner came from Acorn peg 9 where Stuart Bracey weighed in with 137lb 10oz, Stuart caught at 16 meters to the island on the pole with chopped worm and caster. C Section Porth
It was once again the bigger fish showing on Porth today but they are not coming out on the usual baits, those anglers sticking to the more traditional methods normally used on this lake are not fairing as well as the anglers that are using pellet and mini boilie seem to be luring the fish for the better weights. James Cooper won the lake today from peg 71, James caught on the method feeder with groundbait and 40 turns with boilie on the hook for an impressive weight of 52lb 13oz. Second with 19lb 8oz was Rob Peel, Rob caught on the tip with pellet from peg 76. D Section Bolingey
It was better day on Bolingey today having benefited by the lack of rain going into the lake over night, day by day as the bait is going in to the lake the Bolingey “sharks†are beginning to feed so as long as the weather stays settled we should see more top weights over the remaining matches. Lee Edwards was today's lake winner on peg 19, Lee caught on the method and down the edge on meat for an impressive weight of 201lb 6oz. Second with 166lb 8oz was Mick Bull, Mick caught down the edge on meat and on the method from peg 23. E Section Pollawyn
It was a fairly tough day once again on Pollawyn with the lake not fishing as well as in previous festivals. There were still plenty of fish caught though just the carp were not showing in any great numbers and the anglers that had the better weights also had decent nets of silvers to boost their results. The lake winner today on peg 30 was Darren Cox, Darren caught on the pellet feeder tight across and had a few big carp down the edge on casters for a total weight of 79lb 4oz. At this stage we have 6 anglers on a perfect score with some impressive weights after only two days but as per normal it is close at the top and with 3 days left anything could happen. The weather is due to stay reasonably settled for the rest of the week with perhaps the odd shower and slightly cooler.
Join us tomorrow for the latest update and to see if anyone has held on to a third section win.
Day Three
No rain today but it was a bit chillier at the start of the day but it soon warmed up throughout the day and the wind was a lot calmer that on previous days.
Lake winners on the Wednesday of the big festival weeks have the added bonus of a free holiday to look forward to and another mini-festival to enter so we will have to find out who the lucky winners are from today.
The half way point of the festival usually gives us a fair idea of those lined up for the frame on Friday but will things be as clear cut today? Read on to see if anyone has held on to a top sport with maximum points or do we have some changes?

By the way things are going we could be down to a photo finish as the points are very close with impressive weights. No one can call it at the moment so join us tomorrow to see who has managed to bag a 9 point section result to boost there chances of a festival win.

It was a mixed day across all of the lakes in this section today with some strong weights across the board but for some it was more of a struggle. It is still so close at the top with another high scoring festival and some top weights. One bad draw for the anglers tomorrow and with the dropped result on board it could mean game over but for others another section win would secure their place in the top spot.
Join us tomorrow to find out the final top 20 and to find out who is the White Acres Milo Festival champion 2011.
Day Five
We can hardly believe how quickly this week has flow by.
It has been a great week for us and we hope all the anglers feel the same, the atmosphere has been amazing and it seems as if the anglers have all enjoyed themselves judging by the amount of banter going on and the constant windups that the anglers are doing to each other.
Today's draw is always a bit longer with going over the details of the final day and explaining the presentation for tonight. The anglers were champing at the bit to get going as a good draw today could mean the difference in making a jump up the ranks or missing out on the top spots.
A Section Bolingey

B Section Pollawyn
Another tough day on Pollawyn and this lake really hasn’t been on form this week. One of the problems is that the skimmers have started to spawn so the carp are following them round the lake and are obviously not interested in the bait from the anglers. Craig Jones was second, Craig caught on the bomb & pellet and the method to the island for a weight of 68lb 4oz from peg 22.
