Maver Festival 2011
Fishing Information call 01726 862519
It seems like only two minutes ago we were doing this for the spring festivals and now we are on to our autumn events. The first festival is the Maver and it is virtually a sell out event.
The lakes being used for the five day festival are Pollawyn, Jennys/Trewaters, Twin Oaks/Acorn, Porth & Bolingey. The sections are drawn prior to the anglers arrival so if the wish they do get the chance to practise over the weekend and are aware of their lake rotation for the week.
Cornwall was basking in the sunshine for the anglers arriving over the weekend and we were feeling the affects of an Indian summer but this is not set to last for the duration of the week so fingers crossed the weather holds up somewhat.
Day One
All the anglers were gathered in the club for the slightly earlier draw today where Clint runs over the format and rules for the festival. After a glorious start to the day the weather turned sour in the afternoon with the temperature dropping and the skies clouding over and a faint drizzle coming down, this quick change caught out a few anglers especially those that went to the matches without their coats!
Read on for the action from the first day of the 2011 Maver Festival.
A Section Pollawyn
It was a slow start to the festival on Pollawyn today, the weights were low across all sections but across the sections the weights were close when it came to points. There was no stand out areas where the fish seemed to be coming from and the bonus carp were caught all across the lake. For some the match started off well with a fish a chuck but then the pegs were drying up but for other the final hour of the match was a turning point with anglers easily doubling their weight that they had caught in the first 4 hours. Taking the match win today with 84lb 9oz was Adam Richards; Adam was on peg 27 and had two fish on the method but the rest on the long pole with meat on the deck. Andy Power weighed in with 67lb 10oz to take second; Andy was on peg 34 and caught a few skimmers and 2 carp short on the pole with meat but had most of his fish on the groundbait method with meat on the hook. On peg 25 Gareth Malham weighed in with 60lb 15oz to take third, Gareth caught 4 fish on the pellet waggler then had the rest on the long pole with meat on the deck. The next best weight was 59lb 8oz and this came from Russell Grimes on peg 23, Russell caught on meat & pellet on the pole at 5 sections and then down the edge short on caster and worm.
Section Winners
Adam Richards peg 27 9 points 84lb 9oz
Andy Power peg 34 9 points 67lb 10oz
Russell Grimes peg 23 9 points 59lb 8oz
Mark Brown peg 7 9 points 42lb 1oz
B Section Jennys/Trewaters
This section is one of two on this weeks festival, spreading the pegs out to try and make the best possible fishing. Jennys has been fishing well in the week on to the festival but was slower over the weekend and Trewaters is a bit of un-known as it has not really been fished much recently. It was a tough day for those anglers on Jennys with the lake fishing hard but it was a much better day on Trewaters with the anglers getting pleanty of bites. Tommy Pickering was the lake winner today, Tommy weighed in with 93lb 8oz from Trewaters peg 47 he caught 70lb of fish on the method with pellet and then had the rest of his weight on the short pole down the edge on meat. Nathan Watson was on Trewaters peg 19 and weighed in with 87lb 5oz, Nathan caught on the method and in the margins with maggot. Just ounced in to third place with 87lb 4oz was Steve Clark, Steve caught on the short pole with paste and down the edge on worms from Trewaters peg 21. Cameron Hughes on Trewaters peg 39 had the next best weight with 80lb 7oz, Cameron caught on the method feeder with micros and banded pellet. The best weight on Jennys was 74lb 12oz and this came from Steve Knowles on peg 16, Steve caught a few on the method but had a lot of his fish at 13 meters on the pole with worm and casters.
Section Winners
Tommy Pickering peg 47(TW) 9 points 93lb 8oz
Nathan Watson peg 19(TW) 9 points 87lb 5oz
Steve Knowles peg 16(J) 9 points 74lb 12oz
Stewart Bracey peg 5(J) 9 points 51lb 12oz
C Section Trelawney/Twin Oaks
This is the other split section on the festival and although most of the time it is expected that Twin Oaks will produce the top weights there is the odd weight that does come from Trelawney which when it is on form fished well. Both lakes have been fished quite heavily over the last few weeks as our matches throughout September have been big but the lakes are capable of sustaining the pressure so we should see some good results. It was a mixed day over on Twin Oaks with some anglers getting a good weight whilst other had more of a struggle. Although the weights were not brilliant on Trelawney they were close on in the first section but in the second section where the better weights on the lake came from some of the anglers also had a bad day and found it hard for bites. The lake winner today with 115lb 8oz was Nick Speed, Nick was on Twin Oaks peg 27 and caught on the method with pellet and banded pellet on the hook and also had a few down the edge on meat. Second on Twin Oaks peg 14 was Mick Kearns, Mick caught on popped up bread for a weight of 103lb 7oz, Third with 84lb 4oz was Gary Vincent, Gary was on Twin Oaks peg 29 and caught on the method feeder with pellet for a weight of 84lb 4oz. The next best weight, which was also the best weight on Trelawney, was 78lb 11oz and this came from Mike Barlow on Trelawney peg 28, Mike caught on the pole at 5 meters with meat.
Section Winners
Nick Speed peg 27(TO) 9 points 115lb 8oz
Mick Kearns peg 14(TO) 9 points 103lb 7oz
Mike Barlow peg 28(T) 9 points 78lb 11oz
Mark Harris peg 10(T) 9 points 56lb 8oz
D Section Porth
Porth is one of the hardest venues to work out the advance form on as it rarely gets match fished except on our festivals. It was a steady start to the festival on the lake with all of the sections throwing up the odd weight or two, a few anglers struggled but these were mainly those that were not familiar with the lake or those that had an unfortunate draw and could simply not draw in those bigger bonus fish. David Burley was the lake winner today on peg 75 with 17lb 2oz, David caught on the feeder with worm. Second with 16lb 11oz was Lee Edwards, Lee caught roach on the pole with casters from peg 20. Third went to Harry Billing with 16lb 4oz, Harry was on peg 33 and caught on the pole with groundbait and worms. Kevin Wadge on peg 82 had the next best weight with 15lb, Kevin caught on the method with groundbait and red boilie on the hook.
Section Winners
David Burley peg 75 9 points 17lb 2oz
Lee Edwards peg 20 9 points 16lb 11oz
Harry Billing peg 33 9 points 16lb 4oz
Kevin Wadge peg 82 9 points 15lb
E Section Bolingey
It was a cracking start to the week for the anglers on Bolingey with a third of the pack weighing in with 100lbs plus. The lake has been on top form recently but we all know how soon the fish in these lakes wise up to the nets so lets hope this catch rates stay high for the fest of the week. Meat has been banned on |Bolingey for pleasure fishing but we allow a 2 pint limit on festivals so we shall see if this bait plays a big part this week or not. Winning the lake today and getting his festival off to a brilliant start with a weight of 190lb 2oz was Adam Wakelin, Adam was on peg 22 and caught at 13 peters on the pole with pellet and on the feeder tight across to the island. Second on peg 27 was Steve Slater, Steve caught down the edge on meat and pellet for a total weight of 167lb 12oz. Third with 158lb 8oz was James Hawkins, James was on peg 20 and caught on the method feeder with pellet and banded pellet on the hook. On peg 7 Steve Ringer had the next best weight with 153lb 6oz; Steve caught shallow on the long pole with pellet.
Section Winners
Adam Wakelin peg 22 9 points 190lb 2oz
Steve Ringer peg 7 9 points 153lb 6oz
Kieron Rich peg 9 9 points 146lb 2oz

With today's section winners off to a flying start they will hope the draw bag is kind to them tomorrow, with today's results displayed in full the anglers will have a good idea of where they would like to draw to give them a good chance of once again picking up top points.
A section win on day one helps boost the confidence but we all know how things can quickly change, will we see a maximum point scoring winner or will it be chopping and changing throughout the week, join us tomorrow for the next daily update.
Day Two
It was a bright start to the day but once again clouded over and drizzled for most of the day. The fishing has been harder across most of the venues today with a vast drop in temperature and very unsteady weather conditions taking its toll on the lakes. With no significant rain for weeks now the water level in the lakes are down and on some lakes this is affecting the oxygen levels so the aeration is being looked at and fingers crossed we will have some rain soon. The show must go on though and those anglers that have the right attitude and are fishing for bites are seeing the better results whist those that are holding out for the better fish are finding it a bit disappointing.
We have still seen some decent catches today and close weights in some sections so read on to find out if we have any maximum scorers and to see how the action from day two has affected the leader board.
A Section Jennys/Trewaters
The weights were close across the two sections on Jennys today and even though some anglers had a harder day as the water levels are down the weights for the section points were close with the better weights coming from the higher numbered pegs on the lakes. Trewaters fished well again today and doesn't seem to be affected much by the change we have had in the weather and the top weights are still coming from here. Wayne Sharman was the lake winner today with 119lb 14oz; Wayne was on Trewaters peg 31 and caught on the method with micros and maggot. Callum Dicks on Trewaters peg 41 weighed in with 78lb 6oz to take second, Callum caught on pellet shallow and on meat on top five. Luke Sears was third, Luke caught on the deck at 5 meters with maggot for a weight of 73lb 14oz from Trewaters peg 51. The next best weight was 73lb 4oz and this came from Sandra Scotthorne on Trewaters peg 19, Sandra caught on the method tight across and on the pole shallow at 13 meters with caster. The best weight on Jennys came from Russell Grimes on peg 19; Russell weighed in with 70lb 1oz and caught on the pole at 13 meters with chopped worm and caster.
Section Winners
Wayne Sharman peg 31(TW) 9 points 119lb 14oz
Callum Dicks peg 41(TW) 9 points 78lb 6oz
Russell Grimes peg 19(J) 9 points 70lb 1oz
Ben Hart peg 5(J) 9 points 42lb 12oz
B Section Trelawney/Twin Oaks
Reasonable weights again on Twin Oaks today but with less movement on the lake we are not seeing the bigger weights that we are used too. For the anglers on Trelawney it was a really hard day as this lake has been most affected by the weather and is a couple of foot down, some anglers even had some dry nets today but the anglers who persevered and fished for bites managed to build up a small weight by the end of the match. John Whincup was the lake winner today with 136lb 7oz; John was on Twin Oaks peg 29 and caught big carp shallow on 6 mil pellet. Second on Twin oaks peg 16 was Grant Clark, Grant caught on the method, pellet feeder and shallow on the pole at 14.5 meters with 6 mil pellet for a total weight of 83lb 8oz. Nathan Watson weighed in with 78lb 8oz to take third, Nathan caught on the pellet waggler from Twin Oaks peg 14. The next best weight came from Stewart Bracey on Twin Oaks peg 35, Stewart caught mostly on the method feeder but had a couple down the edge for a weight of 72lb 2oz. The best weight on Trelawney came from Tommy Hiller with 23lb 2oz, Tommy caught on the long pole with chopped worm.
Section Winners
John Whincup peg 29(TO) 9 points 136lb 7oz

Tommy Hiller peg 10(T) 9 points 23lb 2oz
Paul Barnard peg 25(T) 9 points 14lb 12oz
C Section Porth
It was a mixed day for the anglers on Porth today with some better weights and also some lower weights with a few anglers having a hard day but as a whole the venue is fishing well and is proving to be one of the fairest venues of the festival. The lake winner today with 25lb 2oz was Eddie Green; Eddie was on peg 71 and caught on the feeder with hair rigged corn. Steve Cooke on peg 73 was second, Steve caught 6 bream and a few bits on the method with corn on the hook for a weight of 21lb 10oz. Third went to Grant Albutt, Grant caught roach on the short pole with maggot for a weight of 14lb 8oz from peg 20. Jon Gray peg 88 9 points 12lb 2oz
Robin Walker peg 35 9 points 10lb 12oz
D Section Bolingey
It was a slightly harder day on Bolingey with another drop in temperature but it is still producing some of the top weights in the festival and in each section over a tonne is needed to pick up top section points, the back up weights in some of the sections are slightly lower than others but good catches all round really. The winning weight today was 166lb 14oz and this came from Tom Wallis on peg 7, Tom caught on the pole down the edge with worm and caster and on the bomb with pellet. Second on peg 23 was Karl Webster, Karl caught on the pole long & short with meat and pellet for a weight of 164lb 12oz. Lee Edwards on peg 19 weighed in with 149lb 2oz to take third, Lee caught down the edge at 5 meters on meat. James Howarth had the next best weight, James caught down the edge on meat for a weight of 136lb 4oz from peg 27.
Section Winners
Tom Wallis peg 7 9 points 166lb 14oz
Karl Webster peg 23 9 points 164lb 12oz
Terry Winter peg 9 9 points 139lb 14oz
Tony Gilbert peg 29 9 points 117lb
E Section Pollawyn
A tough day on Pollawyn as the lake really doesn't seem to be on top form at the moment. The normal “fliers†just don't seem to be producing the weights at the moment and although the anglers are getting out some decent carp unfortunately these are not in any great numbers. It is reasonably close across the sections with the weights close when it comes to the all important points. Andy Lloyd took the lake win today with 85lb 9oz, Andy was on peg 26 and caught on the pellet waggler at 3 ft deep. Second on peg 13 was Steve Ringer, Steve caught 6 carp on the pole at 14.5 meters on meat for a weight of 57lb 6oz. Section Winners
Andy Lloyd peg 26 9 points 85lb 9oz
Steve Ringer peg 13 9 points 57lb 6oz
Steve Conway peg 15 9 points 45lb 4oz
Kieron Rich peg 55 9 points 31lb 7oz

Even though it was a fairly tough day all round we have still seen some good results especially for those on their second section win giving them maximum points. As you can see from the above results it looks as if we could once again be in for a very close festival.
The Indian summer is well and truly over now in Cornwall and autumnal conditions seem to be here for the duration. As we reach the half way point tomorrow we should have a good idea as to the front runners so watch this space.
As well as a battle to be in the top ten there is also another battle going on with 27 anglers fighting it out for the 14 qualification places there are for next weeks Preston festival, with some of these anglers all bunched in the overall results it is going to be a close call as to who out of the 27 will get the remaining places.
Join us tomorrow for the latest update.
Day Three
The mid way point of the festival already, the week is flying by. It was a grey start to the day and this continued for duration with heavy rain come the end of the match.
It was a better day all over really and although on some lakes the winning weights were down it was still reasonably close across the board. As we head in to the match there were three anglers on maximum points, read on to find out if anyone has managed another straight section win and to find out how the match action has affected the leader board. The Wednesday lake winners also have the added bonus of winning a free holiday back to White Acres to fish the 2012 Winners Week mini Festival.
A Section Trelawney/Twin Oaks
It was a slightly better day on Trelawney and although it was still a struggle for some by putting the aerators in to action this has helped the lake and hopefully today's rain should make it also better for the rest of the week. It was a tougher day on Twin Oaks with still not a lot of movement on the lake, there were plenty of signs of fish but some anglers were finding it hard to get the bites and were also loosing a lot of fish. The lake was won today by Alan Scotthorne on Twin Oaks peg 25, Alan caught at 5 meters on meat, down the edge on caster and also had a few on the method with pellet for a total weight of 90lb 7oz. Second went to Russell Grimes with 72lb 12oz, Russell was on Twin Oaks peg 29 and caught on the method across with maggot, at 5 meters on meat and also down the edge on micros and worm. Third was Callum Dicks on Twin Oaks peg 18, Callum caught on the method with pellet for a weight of 65lb 5oz. The next best weight came from Darryl Faletto on Twin Oaks peg 14; Darryl weighed in with 60lb 15oz and caught on the pellet waggler. The best weight on Trelawney came from Mikey Williams on peg 32 with 36lb 3oz, Mikey caught on the pole at 16 meters with chopped worm and caster.

Mikey Williams peg 32(T) 9 points 36lb 3oz
Andy Power peg 10(T) 9 points 33lb 9oz
B Section Porth
It was a great day on Porth today proving that when the lake is as coloured as it is right now it fishes a lot better. The bigger bream were showing today and we saw some great weights across the four different sections. Phil Ringer on peg 71 was the lake winner with 50lb 15oz; Phil caught 12 large bream on the feeder with Ringers natural crumb and Ringers white shellfish boilie on the hook. Paul Pargetter peg 83 9 points 13lb
C Section Bolingey
Top baggin on Bolingey once again today with 18 weights over 80lbs, this venue really benefits by not holding matches on it throughout the season as the fish soon wise up to the nets but even though it was struggle for anglers on a couple of the pegs it was a good day all round. Winning the lake today with 182lb 2oz was Nick Speed on peg 29, Nick caught on the pole short with meat and corn and then down the edge on corn, meat & pellet. Mick Kearns weighed in with 181lb 6oz to take second, Mick caught short on 8 mil pellets from peg 17. David Hiley peg 26 9 points 163lb 12oz

D Section Pollawyn
It was once again a tougher day on Pollawyn but the weights were also close across the sections when it came down to the all important points, the bonus bigger fish seem to be cruising around the lake at the moment as they are not being caught in any numbers across any specific area of the lake. Winning the lake today with 89lb 2oz was Tom Wallis on peg 15, Tom caught on the pellet waggler. Richard Lawson was second; Richard was on peg 13 and caught on the pellet waggler and then short on the pole with meat from peg 13. E Section Jennys/Trewaters
Reasonable weights on Jennys to with the first section being especially close on weights, the far end of the lake fished a bit harder but there was one stand out weight. Trewaters is still fishing well with pleanty of 50lb plus bags. The lake winner today was Derek Willan on Jennys peg 16, Derek caught on the pole at 14.5 meters with chopped worm and casters for a weight of 106lb 2oz. Steve Ringer on Trewaters peg 49 weighed in with 78lb to take second, Steve caught on the pole short with meat and then long down the edge with corn. As the only angler now on maximum points Steve Ringer once again looks set to take a podium position on the festival but there is two days left to go and any thing could happen yet. There have been points won and lost across the pack to day which has once again seen a shift around in the overall results. At the end of play tomorrow we should have a clearer idea of the front runners but then that dropped result will come in to play so no one can afford to put a foot wrong.
Join us tomorrow for the penultimate update from the 2011 Maver Festival.
Day Four
The week has flown by and the penultimate day is upon us, as we head into the match there in now only one angler left on maximum points. The action is beginning to hot up now and it is hard to predict what may happen over the next couple of days.
From the end of the match yesterday and all throughout the night we have had heavy rain and strong winds, great for topping up the lakes but not as good for the fishing. The cold water going into the lakes coupled with another drop in temperature could have an affect on the fishing and although the wind is beneficial on the lakes it also caused problems for some with presentation and the ability to hold the pole at any length.
A Section Porth
It was a record breaking day on Porth with not only the biggest fish of the festival so far being landed today but it was also the biggest fish ever caught on a festival at Porth, this amazing catch was not only the talk of the festival anglers but also the local specimen anglers that have spent years on the banks waiting to land a 30lb carp! Lewis Nightingale was the lake winner on peg 78 and by bagging himself a carp at 30lb 11oz pushed his overall weight to 34lb 7oz to take the win, Lewis caught on the method with an 8 mil boilie on the hook. Second was Mark Goodall, Mark was on peg 23 and caught on the method feeder with groundbait and boilie on the hook for a weight of 25lb 2oz. On peg 19 Chris Evans weighed in with 23lb 11oz to take third, Chris caught on the feeder with worm and maggot. The next best weight came from Adam Richards on peg 35, Adam caught on the pole at 5 meters with maggot and caster for a weight of 17lb 10oz.

Wind hampered play for a few anglers that struggled to fish the long pole and had to resort to coming in closer but a few more of the bigger fish showed today boosting the weights. Andy Bennett on peg 21 was the lake winner today with 99lb 8oz, Andy caught on the pole short with meat and on the bomb with meat. D Section Jennys/Trewaters
A very gusty day on both of these venues with a lot of the anglers having the wind blasting in their faces all day. Even though he has dropped a point today Steve Ringer is still at the top of the leader board but it is not a done deal yet as there were some points clawed back across the top contenders today and a few bloopers for some, so it is once again going to be a nail biting final day and that dropped result will be the making or breaking of some.
There are a number of anglers hoping the draw bag will be kind to them tomorrow and even though they will not necessarily be going all out for a lake win if they manage a good draw within the section of 9 pegs it could make all the difference.
There are also a number of anglers frantically trying to claw back points to qualify for next week, for some it is a done deal and they can count themselves as entered for next weeks festival and for others they know there is no chance of making it now but there is a big group of anglers in the middle of the table that are after the places and this is going to also be a very close fought race.
Final Day
The last day is upon us and once again it has come down to a nail biting end to the festival.
A damp and miserable day once again greeted the anglers with a howling wind whipping across the lakes. The draw this morning was a very tense affair and as the front runners took their turn in the draw bag with everything crossed to see what would be in store for them on the final match.
A section win for some today is the only way they will secure their place in the top ten so it will be heads down and on with the job, for some the festival is over but a good draw today could see them bag a lake win which will give them some beer tokens for tonight's presentation!
A Section Bolingey
Bolingey has fished well this week and although was a bit tougher today there were still some good weights recorded and in some areas it was especially close for the vital points. Today's lake winner with 139lb was Richard Wyatt; Richard was on peg 27 and caught on the top 5 with meat towards the bridge with meat and down the edge. Adam Richards was on peg 12 and was second with 122lb 10oz, Adam caught on the pole at 5 meters with meat. Steve Potter weighed in with 118lb 4oz to take third; Steve was on peg 26 and caught short on meat and down the edge. D Section Trelawney/Twin Oaks
The weights were slightly up on Trelawney today although some anglers were definitely struggling more than others. It was a mixed day on Twin Oaks with the lower numbered lake producing the better weights but this was only from one end of the lake but the high numbered lake fished more consistently with weights coming from across the whole section. David Burley on Twin Oaks peg 14 took the lake win with 93lb 11oz, David caught a few short on meat, a few on the pellet waggler and some on the method with pellet. E Section Porth
It was another good day on Porth and although it is not as coloured as previously in the week the bigger bream are still showing and even for the angler with out these bream in their swims they are still landing pleanty of roach and small skimmers. The lake winner today on peg 71 was Craig Robinson, Craig put in a sterling performance long range feeder fishing with a sweet cake mix groundbait and tic tac on the hook for a weight of 19lb 5oz. Second was Antonio Poynter with 14lb 13oz, Antonio was on peg 76. Second, beating Steve Ringer by an ounce to stop him getting another straight section win, was Leigh Hodgkinson on peg 38 with 14lb 9oz, Leigh caught on the pole with casters. At the end of the day there was only one point separating the top ten anglers in what has been a very close festival.
It has been a fairly tough week but we have still seen some impressive performances with Steve Ringer putting another White Acres festival win notch on his belt. Many thanks to Maver who have kindly sponsored the festival once again and for generously providing prizes for the top ten anglers

Thank you and congratulations to all the anglers that have fished this week making it another enjoyable festival and special congratulations to our top three anglers Steve Ringer, Adam Richards & Adam Wakelin.
Thanks for following the daily updates and we will be back with the first instalment of the Preston Innovations Festival shortly.
