Dynamite Baits 2011
  Fishing Information call 01726 862519

Another week another festival! This week we are welcoming 180 anglers to the 2011 Dynamite Bait Festival. This is always a very popular festival that has a regular following that prefer the modern format of fishing that allows pellet, paste and the method.

The lakes being used for the festival are Pollawyn, Jennys/Trewaters, Twin Oaks/Trelawney, Porth and Bolingey. These lakes were used for the festival last week so the anglers that were her for last weeks festival are clued up about how they fished whilst others have relied on word of mouth and by following the reports on the internet.

Dynamite Baits are one of our longest standing festival sponsors and we would like to thank them once again for their continuous support and generosity with the prizes winners as well as a goodie bag for each competitor.

It has been a mild weekend leading up to the festival and as well as catching up with old friends over a few pints in the bar the banks have also been busy with anglers keen to practise and crack on with the festival. Last week we were very fortunate with the weather and saw some great results, the start of this week is forecast to be a bit iffy but after then it is due to be getting a lot warmer so we should once again see some top catches.

With the anglers knowing their rotation they are ready for the off, the first draw is always exciting with the anglers hoping to get their week off to a promising start. The draw takes a bit longer as the format and rules are explained and then we are ready for the off. Read on for the match action from day one of the 2011 White Acres Dynamite Bait Festival.

Day One

One of the main new rules on this years festivals is a 60lb net limit, a few anglers were caught out with this last week and some of their weight docked so we shall have to see if anyone makes the same mistakes this week as we are anticipating some big weights.

It was a chilly and blustery start to the day and for some the wind was harsher in places which hampered their approach to the match.

A Section Pollawyn
It was a close call on Pollawyn today with the weights in all of the sections being close for points. For some anglers the wind was ripping straight across the lake which affected their match but in the more sheltered areas the weights soon began to build up. The introduction of barbel to the lake is also making an impact as more and more anglers seem to be catching them each day from different areas of the lake. Stuart Bracy was the match winner today with 110lb 4oz, Stuart was on peg 26 and caught on the method feeder with pellet and hair rigged corn on the hook. Second was Dean Smith, Dean caught 7 carp on meat and big bag of silvers down the edge on caster for a total weight of 83lb 2oz from peg 38. Lewis Murawski was on peg 22 and weighed in with 82lb 13oz to take third, Lewis caught on the waggler and the short pole both with pellet and meat. The next best weight was 82lb 1oz and this came from Harry Billing on peg 21, Harry caught 10 fish on the method and 6 on the short pole with meat.

Section Winners
Stuart Bracey peg 26 9 points 110lb 14oz
Dean Smith peg 38 9 points 83lb 2oz
Lewis Murawski peg 22 9 points 82lb 13oz
Adam Barnes peg 1 9 points 45lb 6oz

B Section Jennys/Trewaters
These lakes both fished their proverbials off last week with the top weights coming from both lakes and it being tight across the board. They have once again fished well today and we shall wait to see how the week goes on to see how much of a difference it makes with the allowance of pellets. Even the wind increase didn't have too much of a detrimental affect as both of these lakes are fairly exposed. Despite all the top weights coming from Jennys today it was still very close for points at Trewaters. Nick Speed on Jennys peg 9 took the top spot today with 101lb 8oz, Nick caught on the method with micros and pellet on the hook. Second was James Taylor, James caught on the method with groundbait and meat on the pole at 5 meters from Jennys peg 15 to weigh in with 88lb 4oz. Andy Bennett caught on the long pole with worm to take third, Andy was on Jennys peg 18 and had a weight of 82lb 5oz. The next best weight came from Alex Bones on Jennys peg 16 with 82lb 4oz, Alex caught on the pole at 14.5 meters with worm. The best weight on Trewaters was 81lb 3oz and this came from Joe Carass, Joe was on peg 19 and caught on the method feeder and the short pole with pellets.

Section Winners
Nick Speed peg 9(J) 9 points 101lb 8oz
James Taylor peg 15(J) 9 points 88lb 4oz
Joe Carass peg 19(TW) 9 points 81lb 3oz
Mark Cullerton peg 37(TW) 9 points 72lb 6oz

C Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Twin Oaks was on form last week with both the high and low numbers producing great weights, Trelawney fished reasonable well and although didn't compete as well for the overall weights it was still fairly close with only a couple of areas struggling to produce the better weights. The better weights came from the low numbers of Twin Oaks today but once again it was close on the high numbers and Trelawney with those anglers managing to get that extra bonus fish seeing the benefit when it came down to the section points. James Holmes on Twin Oaks peg 16 took the lake win with 162lb 3oz, James caught on the pole shallow with pellet. Second with 144lb 10oz was Andy Dare, Andy caught on the waggler and at 5 sections on the pole with pellet and meat from Twin Oaks peg 14. Steve Ringer was third, Steve was on Twin Oaks peg 21 and caught on the method and pellet waggler for a weight of 127lb 10oz. Martin Holmes on Twin Oaks peg 8 weighed in with 95lb 12oz which was the next best weight, Martin caught on the method with micros. The best weight on Trelawney came from Martyn Howard on peg 20; Martin caught a few to the island on the pole with pellet, a few in the open water on meat and a couple down the edge on worm for a total weight of 77lb.

Section Winners
James Holmes peg 16(TO) 9 points 162lb 3oz
Steve Ringer peg 21(TO) 9 points 127lb 10oz
Martyn Howard peg 20 9 points 77lb
Adam Rooney peg 14 9 points 74lb 13oz

D Section Porth
Porth fished steadily through the week although the anglers did have a struggle with the pike. The lake is still not coloured but what is good about this venue is that it is one of the fairest lakes with the weights coming from a different section each day. Today was a mixed day down on Porth with a couple of sections fishing better than others but once again it was close across the board when it came to the points. The lake winner today with 15lb 7oz was Andy Leathers; Andy was on peg 16 and caught 190 little skimmers on the waggler with casters. There was a joint second on the lake today with both Andy Geldart and Paul Christie weighing in with 14lb 10oz, Paul caught on the feeder with worm and caster from peg 19 and Andy was on peg 34 and caught on the pole with worm and the feeder with worm and groundbait. The next best weight came from Danny Scott on peg 40, Danny caught on the feeder with worm and the pole with maggot to weigh in with 12lb 1oz.

Section Winners
Andy Leathers peg 16 9 points 15lb 7oz
Andy Geldart peg 34 9 points 14lb 10oz
Malcolm Proctor peg 76 9 points 11lb 3oz
Alan Crouch peg 89 9 points 9lb 1oz

E Section Bolingey
This prolific bagging mecca was on form last week and once again we have high hopes for top weights once again during this festival. The bait limit on meat has been taken back to 2 pints this week seeing as pellets are allowed, this is to protect the quality of the water. It was a flying start to the festival for some who managed to draw the 'fliers' but it was a bit of a struggle for others, the one notorious section fished really well with a weight of 80lb plus only getting you 3 points! Even though in some areas there was only a couple of weights the back up weights were tight. Taking the lake win today with 142lb 14oz was Tony Watling; Tony was on peg 23 and caught on the method feeder and at 5 meters down the edge on meat. On peg 20 Frankie Gianoncelli weighed in with 132lb to take second, Frankie caught on the method with pellet and down the edge on meat. Third was Gavin Butler, Gavin caught on the pole short with meat for a weight of 129lb 11oz from peg 27. The next best weight was 111lb 1oz and this came from John Whincup, John was on peg 19 and caught on the pole at 5 and 14 meters with meat.

Section Winners
Tony Watling peg 23 9 points 142lb 14oz
Gary Smith peg 29 9 points 110lb 8oz
Steve Cooke peg 17 9 points 109lb 11oz
James Stones peg 47 9 points 99lb 15oz

Here is how the first leader board of the week looks like

A great start to the Dynamite Bait festival - are we in for another high scoring close contest like last week?

Join us tomorrow to find out the latest update. Today we were fortunate that the predicted rain did not happen so we shall just have to see what happens over night as to how the rest of the week pans out weather wise and affects the fishing.

Day Two

It was a cold and wet start to the day after a cold and very wet evening. It hammered down for a good few hours which is never good to have that amount of cold water go in to the lakes. Generally all the lakes fished harder today but those that got their heads down and got on with it still managed some good weights.

After a promising day one performance from some there are high hopes for more top action today. Read on to find out how day two has affected our leader board.

A Section Jennys/Trewaters
Weights were slightly down on both lakes today but is was bitterly cold and windy especially over at Trewaters. Even though the weights were down there were still plenty of good catches and was once again close across the sections for points. Today's lake winner with 94lb 14oz was Liam Killinger, Liam caught on the tip from Jennys peg 19. Second was Lee Harrison on Trewaters peg 29, Lee caught at 5 sections on meat for a weight of 90lb 5oz. Harry Billing was third with a weight of 86lb 1oz, Harry was on Trewaters peg 31 and caught on the pole short with meat. The next best weight came from Paul Varley on Jennys peg 9; Paul caught on the pellet feeder with 8 & 6 mils on the hook and weighed in with 84lb.

Section Winners
Liam Killinger peg 19(J) 9 points 94lb 14oz
Lee Harrison peg 29(TW) 9 points 90lb 5oz
Paul Varley peg 9(J) 9 points 84lb
Rob Minikin peg 53(TW) 9 points 68lb 1oz

B Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Both lakes fished harder today especially Trelawney where the weights were down a lot than in previous days. The noted pegs are still doing the business on Twin Oaks but a couple of areas struggled and there was a big difference in the top weights and the back up weights. Nick Speed took the lake win today with 140lb 1oz, Nick was on Twin Oaks peg 27 and caught mainly on the method feeder with pellet but also had a few down the edge on meat. Second on Twin Oaks peg 14 was Chris Kitchin, Chris caught mainly on the pellet feeder but also had a few on the method for a weight of 138lb 12oz. Third with 124lb 6oz was Richard Wyatt on Twin Oaks peg 16. The next best weight and also the best weight on Trelawney was 87lb 8oz and this came from Andy Bennett on peg 32, Andy caught on the pole across with meat and the pellet feeder.

Section Winners
Nick Speed peg 27(TO) 9 points 140lb 1oz
Chris Kitchen peg 14(TO) 9 points 138lb 12oz
Andy Bennett peg 32(T) 9 points 87lb 8oz
Alex Bones peg 12(T) 9 points 51lb 14oz

C Section Porth
It was a mixed day down on Porth where we saw better weights - the highest amount of double figure weights so far this season but there were also a lot more poorer results. The roach are still not showing and it is all small skimmers that are being caught by the anglers. Today's lake win went to Callum Dicks on peg 40, Callum caught 100 skimmers on the long pole with groundbait and worm and the feeder with groundbait and worm for a total weight of 22lb 12oz. Lee Kerry weighed in with 15lb 11oz to take second, Lee caught 120 little skimmers on the pole with groundbait and maggot from peg 75. Third on peg 77 was Steve Ringer with a weight of 14lb 15oz, Steve caught 100 skimmers on the feeder with pinkies. The next best weight on the lake was 14lb 10oz and this came from Steve Conway on peg 38, Steve caught on the waggler with casters

Section Winners
Callum Dicks peg 40 9 points 22lb 12oz
Lee Kerry peg 75 9 points 15lb 11oz
Adam Rooney peg 24 9 points 12lb 3oz
Mark Pollard peg 83 9 points 11lb 2oz

D Section Bolingey
This venue can be easily affected after a hefty dose of cold water and this proved to be the case today after the overnight rain as the weights were lower than on previous days and some of the areas struggling more than others. Across all the pegs the weights were down but everyone was in the same situation and it was still reasonably close when it came down to those all important points. Andy Geldart weighed in with 188lb 12oz to win the lake today; Andy was on peg 29 and caught on the long pole with pellet and in the margins on worm. Second went to Paul Christie on peg 23, Paul caught on the method with pellet and the short pole with meat for a weight of 115lb 12oz. Third with 108lb 15oz was Rod Finch, Rod caught on the method and lead with bread and corn from peg 19. Chris Downs on peg 27 had the next best weight with 102lb 6oz, Chris caught down the edge on worm.

Section Winners
Andy Geldart peg 29 9 points 188lb 12oz
Paul Christie peg 23 9 points 115lb 12oz
Ricky Holdsworth peg 25 9 points 74lb 11oz
Connor Barlow peg 7 9 points 51lb 13oz

E Section Pollawyn
Pollawyn fished hard today and for the anglers in some areas the wind was howling across the lake making their day difficult. The carp were not showing in any great numbers today and for some that 'bonus' fish they managed to land made a big difference to their position within the section. There were lots of mixed nets of fish and the skimmers and silvers played a key part today, it was also good to see so many of the recently stocked barbel showing and even the small chub are being caught. Today's lake winner on peg 28 was Andy Wilkinson; Andy caught on the straight lead with 8 mil pellet and had a weight of 132lb 11oz. Paul Goldstraw weighed in with 75lb 12oz to take second, Paul was on peg 27 and caught on the method & pellet feeder with meat on the hook and had one fish down the edge. Third with 70lb 9oz was John Whincup, John caught on the pole shallow with meat from peg 18. The next best weight on the lake was 61lb 4oz and this came from Rob Middleton on peg 15, Rob caught on the method.

Section Winners
Andy Wilkinson peg 28 9 points 132lb 11oz
Rob Middleton peg 15 9 points 61lb 4oz
Richie Hull peg 7 9 points 55lb 8oz
Frankie Gianoncelli peg 45 9 points 39lb 13oz

That was day two and here is how the leader board currently stands.

This is shaping out to be an exciting week, there are only three anglers on maximum points so far but there results are so close across the board come Friday it could all change.

Thankfully the weather is due to break tomorrow and we are expecting it to warm up a bit which should gee the fish on into feeding so we once again see some top bagging!

Join use tomorrow as we reach the midway point of the festival and see of we have anyone still on a perfect result.

Day Three

Today's weather was a vast improvement and apart from a couple of areas that were sheltered away it was glorious sunshine. Everywhere fished a bit better today and this is partly down to the lack of cold wind.

All of the lake winners today receive an invite back for a free holiday and to fish the winners' week mini festival in October. Read on for the action from day three to see if any of our anglers previously in the top spots have kept a hold on their lead.

A Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Both lakes fished reasonably well today and the weights across all the sections were up on yesterday. It was good to see Trelawney back on form and competing for the overall results. The weights on the high numbers of Twin Oaks were not quite as high as the low numbers but more consistent across the section. The lake was won today with 124lb 8oz and this came from Tim Dabrowa, Tim was on peg 12 and caught carp and F1's on the pellet waggler. Nick White was second, Nick caught on the pellet waggler and the method with pellet from peg 14 for a weight of 110lb 11oz. Dean Smith was on Trelawney peg 26 and was third with 108lb 1oz, Dean caught a few on the bomb but mainly caught on the long pole with pellet and short pole with meat. The next best weight came from Dave Swain on Twin Oaks peg 21; Dave caught on the pole at 5 meters with meat and weighed in with 99lb 6oz.

James Howarth peg 12(T) 9 points 71lb 2oz

B Section Porth
The lake looked slightly more coloured today but the anglers are still having a lot of pike troubles. There were a handful of better weights and the back up weights in most of the sections were reasonably close. Taking the lake win today was Phil Ringer; Phil was on peg 75 and caught on the feeder with maggot for a weight of 14lb 4oz which included a 3lb 4oz perch! Chris Kitchin weighed in with 13lb 6oz to take second; Chris was on peg 87 and caught on the feeder and waggler with worm and red maggot. C Section Bolingey
It was another slightly slower day on Bolingey but the 'fliers' still threw up the winning weights. There were mixed results across all of the sections with some good stand out weights but for the venue not as many impressive back up weights. The lake winner today with 172lb 2oz was Lee Edwards; Lee was on peg 20 and caught shallow on the long pole with meat. Martin Holmes on peg 22 was second, Martin caught on the long pole shallow with meat for a weight of 155lb 8oz. Paul Cannon peg 49 9 points 85lb 8oz
Stewart Lister peg 11 9 points 80lb 7oz

D Section Pollawyn
Close results across most of the sections today with the anglers having the better nets of skimmers and silvers taking the advantage. The better weights are coming from the high bank and the points showing that the fish are in their usual cruising area but are also proving slightly elusive to catch. The lake winner today on peg 19 was Rod Finch, Rod caught on the method with corn for a weight of 111lb 10oz. Steve Bass weighed in with 82lb to take second, Steve was on peg 27 and caught on the method and pellet feeder. Third went to Martin Beardsmore, Martin caught on the method, waggler and lead all with pellet for a weight of 71lb 12oz from peg 15. Rob Middleton was the lake winner today with 82lb 8oz; Rob was on Jennys peg 18 and caught on the method feeder with maggot on the hook. Second with 73lb 11oz was Richie Hull, Richie caught 88 skimmers on the pole at 5 meters with meat from Jennys peg 14. At the half way point we have no one on that perfect maximum score! There were points won and dropped all over the shop today which has given everything a shake up and still left the festival right open! There are still some high points at the top and with two days to go anything could happen - is Mr Ringer about to add another White Acres festival win to his CV or will someone pip him to the post.

Join us tomorrow for the penultimate day of the festival when we should have a bit more of a clearer idea of the definite frontrunners.

The weather is forecast good again for tomorrow so we should be in for a top bagging end to the festival.

Day Four

Despite a foggy cold start to the day the sun soon burned through and we joined the rest of the country in glorious sunshine.

A Section Porth

E Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Both Twin Oaks & Trelawney produced reasonable weights today with nearly a ton needed in each section for those all important 9 points. Trelawney normally gets a bit iffy by this stage in the festivals but it is good to see it is still on form as is Twin Oaks where there are just a few pegs that are struggling more than others. With another section win Steve Ringer is still leading the pack with only 1 point off a perfect score. There has been a bit more chopping and changing in the top 20 today but we will not see the full picture until the end of play tomorrow when the dropped result is taken on board.

It is due to be another warm day tomorrow so once again we should see some top catches. This is not the highest point winning festival we have seen so for some it could be pretty open with points won and lost on the final day.

Join us tomorrow for the final leader board to find out who will be the White Acres Dynamite Baits champion 2011.

Day Five - Grand Final!

It is always an exciting draw on the final day as a good draw can see the difference between framing and dropping out of the top 20.

The sponsors Dynamite Baits were at the draw this morning and handed out goodie bags of products to all of the 180 anglers fishing so a massive thank you to Dynamite Baits and also a massive thank you goes out to them for their coverage of the festival, for anyone who is interested they have been doing daily videos from the festival and these can be viewed on their website www.dynamitebaits.com

As always the catch information is a bit sparser from the final day but here is the main action from how the lakes fished.
