Kick off 2011 with Bait Tech
Fishing Information call 01726 862519
Well once again festival time is upon us! The Bait Tech festival is the first of the season and still remains our only 'Traditional' festival which doesn't allow the use of pellets or the method. There are 178 anglers booked on this week which is a vast improvement on last year's numbers.
Our thanks go out to Bait Tech for once again sponsoring the event and they have kindly supplied goodie bags of products for all the anglers fishing this week's festival and these will be dished out later in the week .The lakes being fished over the 5 days of this year are Pollawyn, Jennys/Trewaters, Twin Oaks/Trelawney, Porth and Bolingey.
We are anticipating it is going to be a great week as it has been fishing well in the lead up to the festival and over the practice weekend. It has helped that the festival is a bit later this year and also we have had a spell of good weather so fingers crossed it stays like this and we don't see any of the Cornish 'liquid sunshine' that tends to haunt us during the festivals.
The first draw is always a little earlier than the rest of the week so we have the chance to go through the details of the festival and confirm the rules. With the sections drawn prior to their arrival the anglers have ample time to practice over the weekend (both fishing and drinking!) and know the lake they will be on for the first day, so with no further ado the draw was off. As we all know many a match can be won or lost at the draw bag but we have a feeling it could be anyone's game this year although there will always be some much preferred 'flyer' pegs, with the winter re-stocking of some of the lakes and the recent match results we have seen fish coming from across the board so we will have to wait and see about the form for the lakes across the rest of the week.
Day One
With the pegs drawn the anglers are ready for the off, as we have said it has fished well during practise but we all know it is a different ball game once those nets go into the lake so we shall see what today brings.
One of the new rules we have introduced to all our matches and festivals is a 60lb net limit - anything over 60lbs in the net and it simply won't count. A few anglers were caught out on this last week on the Rover Match even though they were aware of the limit so fingers crossed this week we wont have to disregard any weights and the anglers are sensible with their nets.
It was a slightly chilly overcast start to the day but it soon brightened up and for those anglers who drew out of the shade was a warm day but for those in the shaded area it remained fairly chilly throughout though fortunately there was only a slight breeze.
A Section Pollawyn
It was a close start to the festival on Pollawyn with the weights reasonably tight across the sections. The carp are still not showing in great numbers but where they are coming out they are a better stamp of fish. The silvers are now playing a much bigger part in the weights with good mixed nets of fish including some good size skimmers, it was also nice to see a few of the new species already coming out with a few anglers landing the chub and barbel. Paul Yates was the lake winner today with 105lb, Paul was on peg 36 and caught 40lbs of good sized skimmers and bits on the inside edge on maggot and casters and caught 12 good carp on the long pole with meat. Second with 98lb 13oz was Adam Wakelin, Adam caught on the meat feeder and shallow on the long pole with meat from peg 25. Third next door on peg 26 was Andy Bennett, Andy caught on the pole long with meat and weighed in with 88lb 6oz. The next best weight came from Chris Vandervleit on peg 45; Chris had a weight of 77lb 8oz caught on the long pole with meat.
Section Winners
Paul Yates peg 36 9 points 105lb
Adam Wakelin peg 25 9 points 98lb 13oz
Anthony Waters peg 12 9 points 67lb 12oz
John Pantry peg 21 9 points 67lb 3oz
B Section Jennys & Trewaters
Jennys has been on fire recently and today was no different with impressive weights across the section being fished on there. Other than the trimming back of the islands and banks there has been no-restocking done to the lake proving that there are pleanty of fish in there to be had. Trewaters is also coming into its own now, the lake is starting to mature and even though the fish are smaller than in some of the on site lakes the anglers are still having a fish a chuck, the water is nicely coloured proving the fish are in there churning up the bottom eager to feed. The lake winner today on Trewaters peg 53 was Lewis Murawski, Lewis had a mixed bag of fish including 90 F1's which he caught at 16 meters on casters and down the edge on maggot for a total weight of 103lb 1oz. Second was Des Shipp on Jennys peg 13, Des weighed in with 94lb 14oz and caught 50lb of roach short on casters and the remainder of his weight was made up with 3 carp and all tench which he caught at 11.5 meters on chopped worm and caster. Third also on Jennys was Steve Ringer, Steve caught 50lbs of silvers on worm and casters at 11 meters and 5 carp on meat short for a total weight of 92lb 12oz from peg 4. Peter Bowles on Trewaters peg 31 had the next best weight with 87lb 14oz, Peter caught on the feeder with worms.
Section Winners
Lewis Murawski peg 53(TW) 9 points 103lb 1oz
Des Shipp peg 13(J) 9 points 94lb 14oz
Steve Ringer peg 4(J) 9 points 92lb 12oz
Pete Bowles peg 31(TW) 9 points 87lb 14oz
C Section Trelawney & Twin Oaks
Trelawney featured a fair bit in our winter league matches and we have seen some good results, but it can also be very much of a 'hit or miss' water and sometimes comes down to the draw bag as to how your day goes so we will just have to watch this space! Twin Oaks has hardly been fished lately, a few anglers chose it in the rover last week and we saw some good weights but we are still unsure of the lakes form although it rarely lets us down and keeps producing the results we will just have to wait and see if the normal pegs are doing the business. Twin Oaks has also had a bit of a visual facelift this year with the pegs being re-vamped to stop them falling forward towards the water and as they are lower there are now a couple of steps down to each platform. The lake is also a lovely chocolate colour so looks as it is going to fish well. Today's winning weight was 126lb 13oz which came from Doug Wright on Twin Oaks peg 12, Doug caught on the feeder to the far bank with meat and on the pole with meat over hemp. Alan Crouch on Twin Oaks peg 14 was second, Alan caught on the meat feeder and weighed in with 125lb 7oz Alan should have been the match winner but cost himself a valuable point by being over on the allowed net limit! Third went to Andy Inglesant on Trelawney with 100lb 5oz, Andy caught all carp on the meat feeder from peg 23. Mark Tomlin on Twin Oaks peg 10 had the next best weight with 94lb 7oz, mark caught 50lbs of carp on the meat feeder and the rest of his weight was made up with skimmers caught at 5 meters on the pole with meat.
Section Winners
Doug Wright peg 12(TO) 9 points 126lb 13oz
Andy Inglesant peg 23(T) 9 points 100lb 5oz
Paul Lamb peg 29(TO) 9 points 79lb 11oz
Steve Martin peg 12 (T) 9 points 60lb 13oz
D Section Porth
Porth is a bit of an unknown entity at the moment with only previous festivals to go by, in the autumn last year the lake fished really well coming off the back of a mild September but in the spring it is always a different story. The lake is currently gin clear which is not ideal for the festival fishing so we shall just have to see. Our predictions this festival is that it is going to be the small fish that play a key part in the results as the skimmers have not yet been showing. There are always areas and sections that fish better than others so the anglers have an idea of where they want to draw but we will have to wait for a few days fishing to see if the peg form is the same again this year. The match winner today was Dean Kenworthy, Dean was on peg 71 and caught on the tip and the waggler with red maggot for a weight of 14lb 7oz. Andy Renton was second with 12lb 7oz, Andy was on peg 87 and caught on the waggler with caster. Harry Billing was on peg 76 and was third with 11lb 14oz, Harry caught on the tip with maggot over groundbait and worm. The next best weight was 11lb 6oz and this came from Richie Hull on peg 75, Richie caught on the pole and feeder with corn.
Section Winners
Dean Kenworthy peg 71 9 points 14lb 7oz
Andy Renton peg 87 9 points 12lb 7oz
James Granger peg 19 9 points 10lb
Jimmy Garside peg 36 9 points 5lb 13oz
E Section Bolingey
Bolingey is another lake that is rarely fished in the winter but is fed regularly and the carp have been crusing around the surface of the lakes snapping up the food like piranhas so seems as if the anglers will once again be bagging this week! This lakes hardly strays from its usual form so the anglers know where they want to be and if they draw well on 'carp city' they know they are in for a busy day but for others if they are not on it they know it is going to be a struggle but every fish counts when it comes to those all important points in the less favoured areas. Meat is being banned pleasure fishing at Bolingey and from this festival onwards it will be down to a 2 pint limit but as the anglers cannot use pellet on this festival we have still allowed them there full 4 pint limit. As the week goes on we will see if the hot spots are still as switched on as in previous years. Grant Albutt was the lake winner today on peg 42, Grant caught on the pole shallow & short with meat for a cracking weight of 164lb 2oz. Second with 137lb 8oz was Martin Leck, Martin was on peg 19 and caught on the feeder and pole with meat. Third went to Cliff Adams on peg 27, Cliff caught on meat for a weight of 136lb 10oz. The next best weight on the lake was 130lb 14oz and this came from Stewart Lister on peg 22, Stewart caught at 9 meters down the edge on meat catching carp to 8lbs and he also caught on the feeder.

With a section win for the above anglers there week is off to a flying start but across the board the weights and points were close so we are hoping for an exciting festival.
The weather is set to get a bit worse throughout the week so we can only hope that the driest March doesn't turn into the wettest April and knock everything on the head!
Join us tomorrow for the latest set of results.
Day TwoWith the first match under their belts it was onwards and upwards for the anglers. Those that had a good result yesterday will be looking for a repeat performance whist others were looking for better points to claw their way up the leader board.
It was a fairly cold start to the day which was overcast and slightly drizzly but as the day progresses the sky broke making it another clear day if still a little chilly. The weigh sheets of yesterday's matches were displayed at this mornings draw so the anglers had an idea of their fortune after they had taken a dip in the bag of dreams!
A Section Jennys/Trewaters
These lakes have both fished well again today with the weights from both lakes competing tightly for the overall results. Across all 4 of the sections the weights were close and at this point no one knows what lake the winner will come from. Steve Sanders was the lake winner today on Jennys peg 21, Steve caught on the pole with chopped worm and casters and weighed in with 113lb 13oz. Adam Wakelin was on Trewaters peg 29 and was second with 96lb 6oz, Adam caught on the pole short with meat and down the edge on corn. Third was Paul Yates, Paul caught 110 mixed fish on maggot & casters on the long pole towards the island and at 13 meters on the inside line from Trewaters peg 37 for a total weight of 86lb 4oz. Roger Brown peg 7(J) 9 points 75lb 1oz
B Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
It fished fair on both Twin Oaks and Trelawney and although the top weights all came from Twin Oaks there were still some good catches on Trelawney today. It seems as though the favoured pegs are producing the good results as expected but the back up weights are coming from across the board. Taking the lake win today with 139lb 8oz was Paul Nichols; Paul was on Twin Oaks peg 14 and caught on the waggler with meat. Des Shipp weighed in with 121lb 9oz to take second, Des caught on the meat feeder and at 6 sections on the pole in front with meat from Twin Oaks peg 10. Third was Steve Ringer on Twin Oaks peg 19, Steve caught on his top kit with casters. The next best weight was 97lb 8oz and this came from Richard Bacon, Richard was on Twin Oaks peg 29 and caught on the top 2 with meat. Phil Ringer peg 87 9 points 10lb
D Section Bolingey
Top baggin on Bolingey today with nearly our first double ton of the year! There are some areas you know you just can't compete from but with important points up for grabs the anglers that draw on these pegs know it could possibly be a struggle but have their minds focused on the end game. Those anglers that have been on the noted pegs though have had a busy day, but for some what would have been a great day was marred by the fact they were over on their net limits so not all their weight counted! Harry Billing was the lake winner today with an impressive 191lb 14oz; Harry was on peg 20 and caught on the waggler, at 6 meters and down the edge all on meat. Second went to Gary Hamilton on peg 23, Gary only used one rig all day and caught all his fish down the edge on meat for a weight of 189lb 10oz. Paul Larthwell was third with 124lb 8oz, Paul caught at 16 and 14 meters down the side with meat and hemp from peg 27. James Granger peg 11 9 points 101lb 4oz
Alex Murray peg 6 9 points 99lb 2oz
E Section Pollawyn
It was a close call on Pollawyn today, although there were only a couple of stand out weights it is fishing reasonably fair across the board with the arm sections fishing better than in previous festivals and the weights being close across all the sections for the points. Today's lake winner on peg 25 was Steve Cooke, Steve caught on the meat feeder and on the long pole with meat for a weight of 103lb 9oz. Seven anglers have a perfect score at the moment but as you can see the weights are very close as well as the points and even with two section wins there is no guarantee of a top ten finish yet.
As the festival goes on the anglers are getting more clued up as to how the lakes are fishing so we should see the results improve as the week goes on, slight showers are forecast for tomorrow and we can only hope that this will not affect the fishing too much '“ however since we have not had rain for a while it might do them good and stir things up a bit.
Join us tomorrow to see how things stand at the half way point of the festival.
Day Three
We are already half way there and this first festival is flying by! By this point in the week we have a clearer idea of who our front runners are and by the looks of things it is shaping up to be another close festival. The third day of the festival also carries the extra bonus that the winners of each lake win a holiday and an invitation back to fish the winners' week minI-festival.
A wet start to the day and although it wasn't heavy it was persistent and lasted a good few hours, a bit of rain might be good to sir things up but hopefully it won't get too much worse. The lakes are certainly starting to show their form now so the draw becomes a bit tenser with the anglers hoping to pick a 'flyer' from the draw bag.
A Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Not as many bigger weights on the low numbers of Twin Oaks today but it was tight across the section, The higher numbers produced the higher consistent weights today. Trelawney fished a bit harder but was still close across the board. Today's lake winner with the biggest weight so far this week was Alan Hodgeon on Twin Oaks peg 16 with 195lb 13oz, Alan caught 46 'lumps' shallow on the waggler with meat. Ricky Dennis weighed in with 104lb 11oz to take second, Ricky was on Twin Oaks peg 14 and caught a few on the meat feeder across but his best line was at 7 meters in front where he caught 12 good sized fish on meat. Third was Kelvin Acton, Kelvin caught a mixed bag of carp F1's and a few silvers on the pole in front at 6 meters and down the edge at 6 meters from Twin Oaks peg 19 for a weight of 101lb 12oz. The next best weight came from Trelawney peg 20 where Nick Darke weighed in with 93lb 5oz, Nick caught on meat across and corn down the edge.

Nick Darke peg 20(T) 9 points 93lb 5oz
Paul Yates peg 10(T) 9 points 73lb 3oz
B Section Porth
The weights were average across all the sections at Porth today even though it was a nightmare day for the anglers with nearly all of them being plagued by pike! Some of the sections are fishing fairer than others but on this lake with only ounces making the difference it is very close when it comes down to the section points. Russell Grimes was the lake winner today with 11lb 9oz; Russell was on peg 23 and caught on the waggler with groundbait, maggot and worm. Second on peg 39 was Steve Ringer, Steve caught 40 skimmers on the feeder with pinkie for a weight of 10lb 9oz. James Garside peg 42 9 points 94lb 10oz
Mick Lees peg 7 9 points 69lb 10oz
D Section Pollawyn
Pollawyn is now a very different lake to what it was in the past and those anglers that are approaching it with that in mind are producing the better weights with the silvers now paying a massive part in the overall weights, the carp that are coming out are a good stamp but they are not being caught in vast numbers. Today's lake winner on peg 27 was Alex Murray, Alex caught on meat at 5ft deep mostly at 13 meters but he also had a few at 14.5 meters for a total weight of 140lb 4oz. Richie Hull was second with 98lb 13oz, Richie was on peg 15 and caught on the pole at 14.5 meters shallow at 5ft with meat. Russ Parsons peg 13 9 points 42lb 4oz
E Section Jennys/Trewaters
Trewaters & Jennys are both still fishing well and is now one of the closest and fairest split sections of lakes we have ever seen on a festival with the overall results coming from the both lakes each day. The lake winner today on Trewaters peg 29 was Martin Leck, Martin caught down the edge on groundbait & meat and at 5 meters on meat for a total weight of 104lb 8oz. Five of the top 20 still have their perfect scores intact and the weights are becoming tighter by the day!
The action is getting close now although a few people dropped points yesterday a few more have started getting the better points after a slow start. The dropped result will come into play at the end of the festival and even though some could possibly afford a bad day but because the points are so high it will not be unusual to be dropping an 8 or a 9!
The weather is due to come in a bit worse tomorrow but hopefully this will not have too much of a negative affect on the fishing. Join us tomorrow for the latest up date when we will have a bit more of a clue as to the White Acres Bait Tech super star 2011!
Day Four
The rain arrived in Cornwall over night with heavy showers throughout the course of the evening, by the morning the rain had cleared but we were met with a cold and windy overcast morning.
Every day for the festival anglers is just as important as the next and this is no exception as it is a bit of a 'make or break' day. Another good result today will definitely book their place within the top ten but another slight blow out could be a disaster for some. There are some anglers that know a good finish is now out of their reach but are just enjoying the fishing of the festival and any money picked up is a bonus.
Despite the rain which we were worried would hinder the fishing it has actually had the opposite affect with all the venues producing great weights. The wind has helped also with a bit of movement on the water.
Follow today's match report to find out what has happened to our runners and riders and see so if anyone has managed to hold on to that perfect four section win result.
A Section Porth
A good result down on Porth today with top weights coming from across all four sections and better results coming from across the whole lake. Paul Yates was today's match winner with the biggest weight recorded at Porth so far this week at 20lb 5oz, Paul was on peg 71 and caught 100 little skimmers at 30 yards on the feeder with maggot and worms. Second on peg 85 was Kelvin Acton, Kelvin caught on the feeder with corn from peg 85. Steve Sanders weighed in with 13lb 4oz to take third, Steve was on peg 36 and caught on the feeder with dead reds. B Section Bolingey
A busy day for the anglers on Bolingey with half the anglers on the lake weighing in with over 70lbs, thankfully the over night rain has not affected this lake which does tend to suffer a bit when it is hit with cold water. Today's lake winner could do no wrong as he caught on what ever method he used, some times it is like this at Bolingey '“ if you draw sock on you will just catch a fish a chuck all day. Jamie Park House on peg 23 was the lake winner with 184lb, Jamie caught on the feeder, waggler and short pole with meat and down the edge on worm. Second with 162lb 8oz was Andy Leathers, Andy caught at 5 meters on meat and down the edge on meat from peg 20. Paul Nichols on peg 45 was third, Paul caught on meat and hemp at 8 meters for a weight of 127lb 14oz. Nigel Smith peg 47 9 points 92lb 4oz
C Section Pollawyn
It was a good day on Pollawyn today, thanks to the wind there was a lot more movement on the lake and it wasn't too strong so didn't hamper with presentation. A lot more carp were caught in different areas today although some of the anglers still had decent bags of silvers that made up the weights. Phil Ringer was the lake winner today on peg 25; Phil caught 27 carp on the meat feeder for a weight of 142lb 13oz. Second with 116lb 11oz was Mark Tomlin, Mark was on peg 28 and caught mainly on the meat feeder but had a few on the waggler. Doug Wright on peg 28 weighed in with 88lb 10oz to take third, Doug caught on the meat feeder. Tim Nash peg 13 9 points 38lb 8oz
D Section Jennys/Trewaters
Both of these lakes '“ Jennys being the highest on the complex and Trewaters being in an exposed area - can sometimes be tough when it is a bit windier but fortunately the wind was more of an assistance rather that a hindrance today and good results were recorded on both venues. The lake winner today was Richard Kinning on Jennys peg 1, Richard weighed in with 97lb 9oz, Danny Wynn weighed in with 96lb 10oz to take second, Danny caught at 3 meters on meat from Trewaters peg 27. Tom Hanser was on Trewaters peg 19 and weighed in with 90lb 2oz to take third, Tom caught on meat at 4 meters. E Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
It was a great day on Twin Oaks with a very impressive amount of fish being caught on both the front and back lakes. It was a harder day on Trelawney but the weights were still very close for those all important points. Martin Leck took the lake win with 169lb 9oz from Twin Oaks peg 25; Martin had 15 fish in the first 15 chucks! He caught 35 on the meat feeder and had 3 down the edge. Second just a few ounces behind was Grant Albutt with 169lb 1oz, Grant caught on the waggler with meat from Twin Oaks peg 18. Here is how the leader board looks as we go into the final day.
Overall Top 20
|
So we are down to three anglers still on maximum points but with a superior weight Steve Ringer claims the top spot for the time being.
After today's match when the results are imputed the dropped point will come into play and we could see all change with the leader board tonight depending on how the anglers get on today '“ once again with the close points and great weights we are looking at a nail biting race to the finish.
At this point I would like to thank on behalf of White Acres and all the anglers fishing this week our sponsors Bait Tech for supporting the festival and providing goodie bags containing some of their top quality products which were handed out this morning to all the anglers fishing.
There is no more rain forecast for the next few days so it should be some more top quality fishing.
Day Five - Final Report
The final day is upon us and the week has flown by, so far we have seen some excellent results and we are in for a nail biting final day with the results being so close.
It was another chilly day with the wind harsher than throughout the week and a bit drizzly all day. At the end of play today the dropped result will come into play and with such high scoring points across the week we could see our highest ever festival points.
Sorry there is not as much catch information as in previous days but it is harder getting the information from the final day but here is the action from the final day.
A Section Bolingey
Some of the areas of Bolingey fished a bit harder today but where there was fish the anglers sacked up. Today's lake winner and picking up a 5th straight section win with a phenomenal weight of 258lb 13oz was Paul Yates, Paul was on peg 27 and when asked how he caught the reply was 'meat anywhere!' Second on peg 7 was Andy Bennett with 142lb, Nick Darke was third with 131lb 11oz on peg 23 and the next best weight on the lake came from Carl Eland on peg 19 with 115lb 10oz.

Roger Brown peg 38 9 points 104lb 6oz
John Pantry peg 16 9 points 83lb 10oz
B Section Pollawyn
Not as many carp caught on Pollawyn today but there were some good bags of mixed fish. There seemed to be a dominating winning peg in each section which produced a high weight and then the remaining back up weights were close for points across the board. C Section Jennys/Trewaters
These two lakes have fished consistently well over the course of the week and today was no exception, the winners have come from both of the venues each day proving it also to be one of the fairest sections. The overall weights were not as big today but across the 36 pegs the weights were consistent and close when it came to the section points. Taking the lake win today with 78lb 5oz was Andy Inglesant; Andy was on Trewaters peg 25 and caught in the margins with meat. E Section Porth
Another fairly reasonable day on Porth and although the lake is still like tap water the anglers are still catching a fair few fish, none of the roach are showing in big numbers but those that are getting the better weights are catching small skimmers. Despite fishing quite hard it is still one of the fairest venues on the festival. Grant Albutt was the lake winner today on peg 20; Grant caught on the feeder with worm and weighed in with 19lb. Second with 14lb 10oz and also picking up a fifth section win was Callum Dicks on peg 84, Callum caught on the feeder and pole with maggot and caster. What a set of festival results that is! Six anglers on maximum points and two of those having to drop a win, for the time of year we couldn't have asked for a better week and as you can see from the cracking weights above there have been plenty of fish caught this week.
This has been a closely fought battle all week and when the news was in that Paul & Callum had both won their fifth straight section win that it would go to weight, Callum had had the upper hand on weight throughout the week but thanks to an amazing result from Paul on Bolingey on the Friday this pushed him to the top spot '“ the person on the scales had an idea that Paul had caught a few seeing as he had 6 nets in!
This has been a fantastic week on all counts and we would like to thank our sponsors Bait Tech for supporting the event and thank and congratulation all the anglers that took part especially our top three of Paul Yates, Callum Dicks and Grant Albutt.
We are now taking bookings for the 2012 Bait Tech festival so if you have been avidly following the results and giving it a go next year please give me a ring on 01726 862 526.
Once again thank you to all the anglers that fished and all of you that have been results.
Cheers, Kirsty
