Maver Festival 2010
Fishing Information call 01726 862519
Once again it is festival time at White Acres and we start off with this years annual Maver Festival. It is virtually a full pack as we head into the five day event that is being fished on Pollawyn, Jennys, Trelawney/Trewaters, Porth & Bolingey.
Heavy rain has greeted the arriving festival anglers which doesn't bode well for the week ahead but fingers crossed it will soon ease and allow the anglers at least a few days without fishing in full wet weather gear! The temperature has definitely dropped over the recent weeks to reflect the time of year but even though things have been a bit slower there are still pretty of good nets of fish to be had.
There are no significant changes to the festival format or rules this year but we have tried out a variation of the sections and will be putting a full section on Jennys for the first time in a number of years and have decided to spit Trewaters with Trelawney, we have also lifted the 13 meter pole limit on Trewaters and brought it in line with the other lakes so the anglers can fish at 16 meters, this combined with less pressure by only having 18 anglers per day on the venue should see some better results than in previous years.
Day One
An early draw is always scheduled for the first day so we can welcome the anglers to the festival, and explain how it all works for the new comers and just clarify the information for all. After Clint has finished his speech it is all go, with the anglers hoping for the best of luck as they reach into the 'bag of dreams' read on for the match action from day one.
A Section Pollawyn
It was a mixed start for the anglers on Pollawyn today with some areas fishing really hard, the fish were there but not feeding. The cold rain that has gone into the lake over the weekend would not have helped this. The weights were still reasonable for the section wins and in some areas it was close for points. Callum Dicks took the lake win today with 103lb 10oz; Callum was on peg 15 and caught on the method & waggler with pellets. Second on peg 22 was Tom Wallis, Tom caught on the pole long & short with meat for a weight of 69lb 11oz. James Hawkins was on peg 18 and was third with 53lb 15oz, James caught on the method with pellets. The next best weight on the lake came from Timmy Rowe on peg 12, Timmy weighed in with 52lb 4oz caught on the long pole with meat.

This is the first time in a while we have had a full section on Jennys so everyone was a bit in the dark as to how it would fish, over the weekend there have been some good catches but also some have struggled in areas. Today's lake winner with a very impressive 123lb 14oz was Tony Butler, Tony was on peg 16 and caught on the long pole with chopped worm and casters. Second on peg 15 was Roger Brown, Roger caught on the pole at 11 & 14 meters with worm and caster for a weight of 88lb 3oz. Trelawney is a very unpredictable lake so we shall see what happens throughout the week. E Section Bolingey
It was a funny day down at Bolingey and although we saw some of the prolific weights we are used to, some anglers had more of a struggle and we saw some much lower weights, as the week goes on we will be able to tell where the fish are and also those areas the anglers will not want to draw in. Winning the lake today with a whopping weight of 228lb 4oz was Paul Holland; Paul was on peg 22 and caught on the method with pellet. It was a good start to the festival for some whist others will be hoping for a better draw tomorrow, heavy rain has been forecast over night so let's hope this does not have too much of an adverse affect on the fishing.
Join us tomorrow for the second day of the Maver Festival 2010.
Day Two
The weather has been fairly kind to us once again and despite the heavens opening and raining all night the day was fine and clear, the cold water going into the lakes overnight is not doing anyone any favours but we have still seen some good weights coming from across all the venues.

Our next update will be the mid-way point of the festival and this will be an indicator of the definite front runners, join us tomorrow for the latest update
Day Three
It is the half way point of the festival, by this time some anglers would hope there worst results is behind them and ready for the 'drop' whist others are still flying high and can afford a wobble in the last couple of days.
Once again we have had rain overnight but thankfully it is holding off during the day. There are still a few areas fishing a bit 'iffy' but generally there are reasonable weights coming from across all of the lakes.
A lake win on the Wednesday of the festival always brings an added bonus with the 5 lucky lake winners receiving a free holiday and an invitation to fish in the 2011 Winners Week Mini Festival. Read on to find out who the latest winners are and how the day has unfolded, is there any change on the leader board or are the points still close at the top?

All of those previously on maximum points have dropped points today and although there are still some names in the frame they know another small mistake or a bad draw could end in disaster as there are some other anglers that have crept gradually up the table and are within striking distance of the title.
After the final match the drop result will come into play and that could see all change again, catch the final exciting results of the festival with us tomorrow as we find out who is the White Acres Maver Festival champion 2010.
Day Five
Final day of the festival and I can't believe how quick the week has flown by. It is going to be another photo finish as there are a number of anglers that could all finish on maximum points and it will come down to the dropped result once the final scores are in.
It was another very windy day and the dark clouds overhead looked ready to rain at any point but luckily the rain held off until the dying moments of the match. Read on for the catch information from the last day of the festival and see who has been crowned the 2010 White Acres Maver Champion.

C Section Jennys
Another fair day up on Jennys and although the weights have mainly been coming from the pegs in the mid-teens there have been close weights and good back up weights coming from across the lake. Jennys has really proved itself this week and we will be certainly using it as a venue on its own in other festivals. D Section Trelawney/Trewaters
Good weights coming from both lakes today and throughout the week Trewaters has fished well with just the 18 anglers on the venue (fished so well in fact we have decided to split the section again for next weeks festival to encourage the better weights). Trelawney is also split again next weeks to fingers crossed it will carry on fishing well. The lake winner today was Martyn Howard on Trelawney peg 10 with 104lb 11oz, Martyn caught on the method and down the edge. Second '“ and again picking up a 4th section win '“ with 93lb 3oz was Jamie Wilde on peg 31 at Trewaters, Jamie caught on the method with maggot. E Section Porth
Porth has seemed to fish really well this festival and unfortunately there are always going to be a few anglers that struggle with the venue and we see some very low weights, generally though the weights seem up on the earlier spring festivals. Winning the lake today with a weight of 20lb 10oz was Harry Billing; Harry was on peg 39 and caught on the pole with worms over groundbait. Second - and the 5th angler of the festival to pick up his 4th section win '“ was Phil Ringer with 20lb 1oz; Phil caught on the tip with maggot and was on peg 76. Third went to Simon Fry on peg 89, Simon caught on the pole at 11 meters with worm and weighed in with 19lb 11oz. Jason le Bosquet on peg 87 had the next best weight on the lake with 16lb 10oz, Jason caught on the feeder and pole with maggot and worm.

So Kieron Rich is the White Acres Maver champion 2010, it has been a very close competition with a number of anglers jostling for the top spots throughout the course of the week. Kieron and Phil were both tied on points and a dropped result of 8 but thanks to an amazing haul of fish from Bolingey on the last day Kieron had the superior weight and took the win.
It has been a while since we have seen this many anglers tied on points and just goes to show the standard of anglers fishing the festival, I think anything less than 31 points is no longer going to see you in the top results on a festival.
We would like to thank all of the anglers that fished the festival last week and hope they enjoyed it as much as we did and think they will agree it has been a great festival. Many thanks also to Maver and Steve Mayo for providing the prizes for the top ten and being here for the presentation.
Thank you and congratulations to all the anglers once again especially our top three of Kieron Rich, Phil Ringer & Jamie Wilde.
Cheers, Kirsty
