Winners Week Mini Festival 2009
  Fishing Information call 01726 862519

This week is a celebration of match winners from throughout the year at White Acres, everyone who has won a Gold, Silver or Rover Match or who won a lake on a Wednesday of one of the main festivals is invited back for a free holiday and to fish the 3 day mini festival.

The 72 anglers that are fishing this year will be on Trelawney, Jennys/Python and Twin Oaks/Acorn with one lucky angler walking away with £1000 sponsored by White Acres & Parkdean Holidays.

Day One
For the festival this year we have not pre drawn the sections, instead all the pegs for all of the lakes will go into the bag today so not only are the anglers drawing for where they will fish today they will also draw their own rotation. All the lakes fished harder last week as it has become so cold, but hopefully this will not stop this being another great event.

A Section Trelawney
Trelawney fished hard today with some areas struggling more than others. The lake winner was Simon Jeffery on peg 26, Simon caught on the long pole shallow with pellet for a weight of 43lb 10oz. Andy Dare was second with 25lb 8oz, Andy caught on the feeder to the island with maggot and pellet and on the short pole with caster. Third on peg 31 was Ant King, Ant caught to the island at 16 meters with pellet and weighed in with 20lb 4oz.

Section Winners
Simon Jeffery peg 26 6 points 43lb 10oz
Ted Budd peg 23 6 points 20lb
Neil Daniels peg 16 6 points 19lb 4oz
Vince Brown peg 7 6 points 13lb

B Section Twin Oaks & Acorn
It was a mixed day on this section of lakes, Acorn fished really well and provided us with the biggest weight of the day and on some areas of Twin Oaks the weights were really tight for section points but apart from a couple of decent weights, the high numbers of Twin Oaks fished hard. Jack Heath was the lake winner today on Acorn peg 5, Jack set up two simple lines for the day and caught on the method with pellet and in the margins on corn for a weight of 82lb 12oz. Second was Nathan Watson with 69lb 12oz, Nathan was on Twin Oaks peg 2 and caught on the method with pellet and meat & corn on the hook. Kurtis Greenwood weighed in with 68lb 5oz to take third, Kurtis caught on the method feeder with pellet from Twin Oaks peg 18.

Section Winners
Jack Heath peg 5 (A) 6 points 82lb 12oz
Nathan Watson peg 2 (TO) 6 points 69lb 12oz
Kurtis Greenwood peg 18 (TO) 6 points 68lb 5oz
Mick Kearns peg 32 (TO) 6 points 45lb 11oz

C Section Jennys & Python
It was a much better day up on Jennys and despite a few lower weights it generally fished better than in the Masters on Saturday, the weights were also reasonable on Python with the weights being close across all the areas. John Chapman on Jennys peg 9, John caught on pellet shallow for a weight of 52lb 12oz. Second with 43lb 6oz was Andy Geldart, Andy was on Jennys peg 15 and caught on casters for roach and pellet shallow for F1’s. With a section win worth 6 points it means towards the end of the week the results could become very close, a section win on day one has set a number of anglers off on the right foot but for others they are hoping for a better draw tomorrow. Join us for the next update soon.

Day Two

It was another cold night which has really knocked the fishing on the head. It was a hard day all over but a couple of areas threw up a few good weights. Being that it is only a three day festival some of the anglers will have to up their game today to get a chance at the win.

A Section Twin Oaks/Acorn
Acorn once again provided the better weights today with the fish willing to feed but it was a different story on Twin Oaks where there were plenty of signs of the fish but they simply weren’t feeding. Neil Carless was today’s lake winner on Acorn peg 19, Neil caught on pellet tight over at 16 meters and on meat in the margins for a weight of 86lb. Second, also on Acorn was Gary Wills, Gary was on peg 5 and had a weight of 69lb 4oz he caught on the method and on the pole down the edge with meat. Ant King was third, Ant caught on the method with groundbait and dead maggot for a weight of 66lb 10oz from Twin Oaks peg 35.

Section Winners
Neil Carless peg 19(A) 6 points 86lb
Ant King peg 35(TO) 6 points 66lb 10oz
Dave Wilde peg 3(TO) 6 points 31lb 7oz
Tony Hopper peg 17(TO) 6 points 25lb 10oz

B Section Jennys/Python
There were better weights on Jennys & Python than we expected as Jennys has been fishing really hard at the moment. Rob Minikin was the lake winner with a surprise weight of 73lb 12oz from Python peg 9, Rob caught shallow with pellet. Second, also on Python was Kev Baxter, Kev caught on the method feeder with pellet for a weight of 59lb 13oz from peg 15. Kevin Wadge was third with 58lb 6oz; Kev was on Jennys peg 7 and caught on pellet shallow.

Section Winners
Rob Minikin peg 9(PY) 6 points 73lb 12oz
Kevin Wadge peg 7(J) 6 points 58lb 6oz
Nathan Watson peg 19(J) 6 points 40lb 1oz
Richie Hull peg 27 6 points 27lb 5oz

C Section Trelawney
Trelawney is still fishing hard, which is to be expected given it was in the festival last week and the cold weather is not helping, there were a few better weights but it was a struggle for some. Andy Bailey was the lake winner today with 70lb 14oz; Andy was on peg 25 and caught on pellet shallow. Second with 62lb 15oz was Andy Geldart, Andy caught shallow with pellet and was on peg 26. Third on peg 31 was John Chapman, John caught on pellet tight across for a weight of 42lb 14oz.

Section Winners
Andy Bailey peg 25 6 points 70lb 14oz
Andy Geldart peg 26 6 points 62lb 15oz
Bob Giles peg 10 6 points 34lb 3oz
Paul Burton peg 2 6 points 17lb 10z

It is close at the top with Nathan & Andy on 2 section wins and less than 4lbs separating them. It is a break for some on Wednesday with some anglers choosing to have a day out rather than fishing the optional residents match. The final match is on Thursday, will we see a shake up at the top? Join us tomorrow to see who is crowned champion of winners week 2009.

Final Day

It has been a tough week fishing wise for the anglers but they have all shared a fair bit of banter both on the banks and in the bar and seem to have made the best of a tough situation. With no dropped result in this festival for some it was going to be won or lost at the draw bag, today’s results could turn the festival around so read on for the latest up date and to find out who the 2009 Winners Week Champion is.

A Section Jennys/Python
The weights on Jennys were tight today with a couple of pounds making the difference in section points. On Python although it was tough in the narrows it was a close fought competition in the wides. Gary Wills was the lake winner today on Jennys peg 16, Gary caught shallow on the long pole with pellet for a weight of 69lb. Second was Neil Carless on Python peg 13 with a weight of 53lb 10oz. Lee Pesticcio weighed in with 44lb 2oz to take third, Lee was on Python peg 9 and caught on pellet shallow.

Section Winners
Gary Wills peg 16(J) 6 points 69lb
Neil Carless peg 13(PY) 6 points 53lb 10oz
Andy King peg 9(J) 6 points 35lb 4oz
Andy Dare peg 36(PY) 6 points 34lb 6oz

B Section Trelawney
It was the toughest day so far for the anglers on Trelawney, with the lake showing every sign of needing a rest. Rich Jeffery was the lake winner today with 27lb 12oz; Rich was on peg 13 and caught down the edge on meat. Second on peg 25 was Rob Minikin, Rob caught on the method with micros and had some silvers, caught on the pole for a total weight of 22lb 12oz. Malcolm Fitzgerald took third with 17lb 12oz, Malcolm caught on the method with groundbait from peg 26.

Section Winners
Rich Jeffery peg 13 6 points 27lb 12oz
Rob Minikin peg 25 6 points 22lb 12oz
Malcolm Fitzgerald peg 26 6 points 17lb 12oz
Paul Roberts peg 8 6 points 16lb 3oz

C Section Twin Oaks/Acorn
Acorn is still dominating the better weights and is fishing well where as the weights on Twin Oaks have steadily been declining this week with the anglers – especially on the high numbers really having a hard day. John Chapman was the lake winner today with 69lb 1oz; John was on Acorn peg 5 and caught on the method and down the edge on corn. Second was Paul Burton with 54lb 5oz, Paul was on Acorn peg 19 and caught on the method. Tony Gilbert on Acorn peg 8 was third with 53lb 2oz. The best weight on Twin Oaks was 38lb 5oz and this came from Adam Wakelin on peg 18.

Section Winners
John Chapman peg 5(A) 6 points 69lb 1oz
Adam Wakelin peg 18(TO) 6 points 38lb 5oz
Andy Bailey peg 3(TO) 6 points 36lb 4oz
Tony Curd peg 32(TO) 6 points 24lb 6oz

20th Tony Hopper 13 points 65lb 10oz

Ending up with 17 out of a possible 18 points John Chapman is our 2009 Winners Week Champion, with a section win on the final day for John and some others anglers that were in the frame dropping a point or two this means he edges them out of the top spot to claim the victory. It was a close fought match to see who took the remaining cash positions with 4 anglers joint on 16 points but Andy Bailey took the advantage on weight followed by Andy Geldart who took the last cash winning position by just 7lbs. Winners week is entirely sponsored by White Acres & Parkdean Holidays and this sees John walking away with £1000, Andy B £600 and Andy G £400.

I would really like to thank all of the anglers that took part this week as despite the fishing being tough all sprits were kept high once again making this one of our favourite weeks of the year. There is a different line up of anglers each year for this festival as it depends on who wins a match through out the season, the 2010 winners festival date is set for the 16th October so we shall keep you updated, with a new batch of White Acres match winning hopefulls all eager to have a bash for the £1000.

Cheers, Kirsty
