Coca Cola & Preston Innovations Intermediates Festival 2009
  Fishing Information call 01726 862519

This year the White Acres Intermediate festival is set to be better than ever with a significant increase in entry numbers with 23 anglers aged between 16 and 18 taking to the banks of Twin Oaks for a 2-day festival. The format this year sees the festival being held midweek, which allows the young anglers time to have a bit of practise on the lakes.

The festival is sponsored by Coca Cola who generously add £500 worth of sponsorship as well as backing from one of the top names in angling Preston Innovations, this year we have been gob-smacked by the amount Preston have donated for the anglers, their generosity is phenomenal with all competitors taking home a goodie bag worth at least £150 this is as well as the prizes that we will be giving away for the top eight in the festival. This year we are using the two sides of Twin Oaks, there will be a random draw on the morning of the first match with the anglers picking their own sections as to which rotation they fish the lakes. Twin Oaks has been fishing consistently well over the previous weeks so we should see some good weights being recorded, Twin Oaks is ideal for these anglers as there is a different approach to both sides of the lakes which will see them having to work hard for their points. It is a strong field in the festival with some of the Uk's up and coming match anglers taking part as well as some past and present England Juniors.

Day One

With it being a random draw non of the anglers knew what competition they faced and as the hands went in to the draw bag the anglers were hoping to avoid their team mates and closet rivals in the festivals, it seems to be a fair split across the two sections and could be won from any number of these young anglers.

A Section Twin Oaks 1 - 18
This side of the lake is notorious for anglers sacking up with large carp making up some great weights. The lake has been split into two sections with pegs 2 - 9 making up one section and 11 – 18 the other with a maxim 6-point section win up for grabs. The lake winner was Luke Hancock on peg 16 taking the 6 points with 89lb 2oz, Luke caught on the pellet waggler with 8 mil pellets feeding micros. Second on the lake and also winning his 6 point section was Josh Anderson, Josh was on peg 9 and caught on the meat feeder for a weight of 84lb 4oz. Will Buckie bagged 5 points with his weight of 56lb 10oz, Will was on peg 2 and caught 12 carp and a couple of skimmers on the pellet feeder. Harry Marsh also picked up 5 points in his section; Harry was on peg 11 and had a weight of 49lb 7oz caught on the pellet feeder and down the edge with meat. The next best weight came from Jason Fay on peg 17, Jason caught on the bomb with pellet for a weight of 43lb 7oz.

Section Winners
Luke Hancock peg 15 6 points 98lb 2oz
Josh Anderson peg 9 6 points 84lb 4oz

B Section Twin Oaks 19 - 36
The weights are always expected to be lower on this side of Twin Oaks as it is full of more “stockie” sized carp and more silvers. Winning his 6 point section and having the best weight on the lake was Lee Barnes on peg 35, Lee caught on the pellet waggler with 8 mil pellets for a weight of 54lb 10oz. Jake Marshall also picked up a 6 point section win and had the second best weight on the lake with 46lb 14oz, Jake was on peg 25 and caught 18 carp half and half on the waggler and feeder with pellet. Ben Lockwood was on peg 26 and weighed in with 27lb 10oz to pick up 5 points, Ben caught 9 carp on the pellet waggler and also had a few small silvers. Luke Morley had a weight of 17lb 6oz, which was all roach that caught shallow on the pole with caster; Luke was on peg 34 and took 5 points. Mick Chung had the next best weight on the lake, Mike was on peg 22 and weighed in with 13lb 9oz, which was 2 carp caught on the bomb with pellet and 10lb of silvers.

Section Winners
Lee Barnes peg 35 6 points 54lb 10oz
Jake Marshall peg 25 6 points 46lb 14oz

So the festival was off to a great start with some good weights caught. A section win or second was a promising start for some and they could only hope to equal or better this for the final day but for others they were hoping for a bit more luck as the entered the draw bag the following day.

Day Two

Well anyone would have thought it was tsunami season with the amount of rain we had over night, the fishing on Twin Oaks always becomes harder with that amount of cold water going into the lakes and although the weights were anticipated to be lower today the valuable points were still there to play for making it an exciting final day.

A Section Twin Oaks 19 - 36
It was all change for A section today after them bagging yesterday it was now all about the smaller carp or putting together a good weight of silvers. Luke Hancocok once again won his 6-point section and today won the lake with a weight of 23lb 2oz, Luke was on peg 23 and caught shallow at 13 meters with maggot. The next best weight and also winning his section was Duane Shuttleworth on peg 34, Duane caught on the bomb with pellet. Picking up 5 points was Danny Tresigne on peg 19 with 14lb 1oz. Harry Marsh had 5 points also with 9lb 1oz, Harry was on peg 31 and caught shallow on maggot. Josh Anderson weighed in with 13lb and picked up 4 points for his effort, Josh was on peg 22 and caught on the pellet feeder.

Section Winners
Luke Hancock peg 23 6 points 23lb 2oz
Duane Shuttleworth peg 34 6 points 18lb 5oz

B Section Twin Oaks 1 - 18
The cold rain over night did no favours today as because it being gloriously sunny the fish had backed off somewhat. The lake winner was Ben Lockwood on peg 15, Ben caught on the feeder with pellet to pick up 6 points for the section win with a weight of 50lb. The next best weight came from our only female in the competition Maisie Ellaway, Maisie was on peg 17 and caught 2 on the straight lead with pellet and the rest on the pole with worm for a weight if 46lb 13oz and picked up 5 points for her effort. Mike Chung was on peg 8 and was the other section winner, Mike weighed in with 30lb 10oz caught at 4 meters with caster and on the method. Luke Morley was on peg 18 and picked up 4 points for his weight of 38lb 10oz, Luke caught shallow with caster and also on the feeder with pellets.

Section Winners
Ben Lockwood peg 15 6 points 50lb
Mike Chung peg 8 6 points 30lb 10oz

That was all the action from the two days of the intermediate festival and this is how the overall leader board looks.

For the second year running and with perfect points Luke Hancock takes the festival title of Coca Cola Preston Innovations Intermediate champion 2009. The points and weights were close but it was only Luke that managed to bag the much needed double section win. Most of these anglers are already standing their ground in adult matches as well as fishing in major teams and for the country but it was also good to see the lesser-known anglers giving them a run for their money.

The goodie bags provided by Preston were amazing and there were more than one or two dads & brothers trying to get their mitts on the anglers prizes. The sponsor ship form Coke as well as the entry fees helped us to add to the huge haul of prizes donated by Preston making sure the top 8 went home well laden with products.

It has been another successful event for us here at White Acres and once again thank you to Coca Cola & Preston Innovations for sponsoring the event and thanks and congratulations to all our intermediate anglers especially our top three of Luke Hancock, Ben Lockwood & Josh Anderson.

Cheers, Kirsty
