White Acres Gaymer Cider Festival 2009
  Fishing Information call 01726 862519

It is once again time for another festival and this one is the Virgins festival sponsored by Gaymer Cider. This festival is designed for the 'club angler' and for those who fish smaller matches.
It is a 4-day festival and is being fished on Twin Oaks (low & high) numbers, Acorn & Canal, it is run on points and then weight if the points are tied but there is no dropped result....

The forecast for the week has been cracking (which makes a change as for the last few years the anglers have been like drowned rats on this festival) but this is not really the ideal fishing conditions as in the bright glare the fish have tended to back right off until the later stages of the match. There are 62 anglers fishing the festival and many have supported the event since the very fist year and they are all keen to get on with the show so let's find out how the first day went.

Day One
With the rest of the UK in the grips of a heat wave we escaped the soaring temperatures and although it was a hot day there was a fair amount of cloud cover and a nice breeze. The draw for the festival had already been done so the anglers knew their sections for the week and who they would be fishing against.

A Section Twin Oaks 1 - 18
It was the low numbers of Twin Oaks for A section on the first match, this lake is renowned for big weights but as with all the lakes the pegging is tight so the weights are more likely to be spread out. Andy Forbes was today's lake winner with 82lb 12oz; Andy was on peg 9 and caught on the method feeder with micro pellets. Second was Duncan Rogers, Duncan fished on the feeder & waggler with pellet from peg 10 and weighed in with 42lb 7oz. Jon Cook(L) was on peg 3 and was third with 40lb 10oz, Jon caught on the method with micro pellets. The next best weight on the lake came from Danny Edwards on peg 2, Danny also caught on the method with micros and was just one fish short of Jon's weight with 37lb 2oz.

Section Winners
Andy Forbes 8 points 82lb 12oz
Duncan Rogers 8 points 42lblb 7oz

B Section Twin Oaks 19 - 36
There have been mixed weights on this lake recently with no one area being preferable on the lake. The weights today were fairly consistent across all the lakes with only a few anglers struggling. The lake winner today was Mark Read on peg 20; Mark caught 14 fish on the pellet waggler and 1 on the bomb for a weight of 47lb 4oz. Second with 23lb 13oz was Ricky Dennis, Ricky caught tight over on the method with 6 mil banded pellets from peg 24.Third was David Gibbs on peg 32, David caught on the method feeder with 6 mil pellet on the hook for a weight of 23lb 1oz. 19lb 12oz was the next best weight on the lake and this came from Ricky Lale on peg 28, Ricky caught on paste in the margins.

Section Winners
Mark Read 8 points 47lb 4oz
David Gibbs 8 points 23lb 1oz

C Section Acorn
It was on to Acorn for the first festival match for C section and it was definitely a split match with one section catching well and the other fishing a bit harder. There were reasonable weights from across the lake but one end definitely fished better. The lake winner with 83lb 5oz was Mick Warner; Mick was on peg 5 and caught down the edge on the pole at 9 meters with paste. Ian Carley caught on the method and bomb to take second with 47lb 5oz, Ian was on peg 16. Third on peg 3 was Adam Baker, Adam caught on the pole in the edge with meat for a weight of 38lb 12oz. The next best weight came from Dave Phillips on peg 10, Dave weighed in with 37lb 8oz caught on the pellet feeder and then late on down the edge on meat.

Section Winners
Mick Warner 8 points 83lb 5oz
Dave Phillips 8 points 37lb 8oz

D Section Canal
Canal fished the closest of all the lakes today and with smaller fish in the lakes more were needed to build up and good net of fish so most of the anglers were certainly kept busy. Today's lake winner was Ian Turner with 33lb 8oz; Ian was on peg 6 and caught on the pole short with maggots and casters. Second on peg 15 was Chris Evans, Chris caught up in the water on worm for a weight of 28lb 13oz. Rich Britton was third, Rich had a weight of 24lb 4oz caught in the margins on worm from peg 12. The next best weight came from John Cain on peg 3; John fished the long pole across with worm and caster for a weight of 24lb 3oz.

Section Winners
Ian Turner 8 points 33lb 8oz
Chris Evans 8 points 28lb 13oz

That was day one of the festival and here is how the first top ten looks.

Overall Top Ten

  Name Points Weight
1st Mick Warner
8 points 83lb 5oz
2nd Andy Forbes 8 points 82lb 12oz
3rd Mark Read
8 points 47lb 4oz

8th David Gibbs 8 points 23lb 1oz
9th Ian Carley 7 points 47lb 5oz
10th Jon Cook 7 points 40lb 10oz

So that is how things look as we head into the second match, it was a great start for some but for others not so, just by looking at today's results I have a feeling it is going to be another close festival so you will have to stop by tomorrow to see how day two fishes and how the top ten looks.

Cheers, Kirsty

We have three anglers on maximum points as we go into the third day; the weights are beginning to mount up so it could come down to a close finish.

Day Three
Another scorcher of a day for the anglers as they go into the pen-ultimate match. By now the anglers have got a little bit of form for the lakes and an idea of the bait so they will be going all out to fish for those vital points. Three anglers went into the third day with top points read on to see how many, if any, come out the other side still on maximum.

It was another good day on Acorn, especially for our lake winner Andy Forbes who weighed in with an impressive 85lb 2oz, Andy was on peg 16 and caught on dead maggots and micros on the method. It was good day on the lake today with good weights coming from across the lake, this is one lake where the method is playing a big part as sometimes it can be a bit wind dominated, but with accurate casting of the method the anglers can get tight over and get steady bites all day. The points and weights are now very close so we could be in for a surprise tomorrow if anyone makes a mistake. Join us tomorrow for the final result of the White Acres Gaymer Cider festival 2009.

Day Four - The Final
So it is the final match of the week and there is a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. Overnight the weather has been terrible with torrential down pours, thunder & lightning, unfortunately it stayed like this for most of the day so instead of battling with the heat as in previous days it was now a case of avoiding looking like a drowned rat! It is hard to predict how this change in weather will affect the fishing so read on for today's match action.

A Section Canal
Canal has gone from strength to strength this week and has withheld the pressure from the festival, the weights today were up in all areas and it fished well. Danny Edwards was the lake winner on peg 7, Danny caught on chopped worm for a weight of 39lb 8oz.

Our current festival leader Andy Forbes was second picking up 7 points, would this be enough so see him concrete his place as festival winner? Andy was on peg 8 and weighed in with 30lb 9oz caught on worm over groundbait. Third with 30lb 3oz was Jon Cook(G), Jon was on peg 10 and caught on maggot over groundbait. Despite dropping a point on the final day Andy Forbes has emerged the victor of the 2009 White Acres Gamers Festival, Andy has had a great week and although tied on points he has amassed the biggest weight of the festival. Ian Carley has also had a great week and narrowly missed out on the win as it came down to weight on the final results.

I hope all the anglers have enjoyed their week; we have received great reports from all the competitors saying they have had a great festival. Thank you and congratulations to all the anglers that competed in the event and thank you also to Gaymers Cider for providing sponsorship, their generosity allowed us to provide prizes for the top ten anglers plus the mystery weight.

The festival date for 2010 is confirmed as the 26th June so if you are interest please get in touch.

Thanks to all once again and see you next year.

Cheers, Kirsty
