Dynamite Baits Festival of 2009
  Fishing Information call 01726 862519

Well after a very successful first festival of the year we now move on to the second big event on the calendar the Dynamite Bait Festival, this is the first festival that allows pellet and as the temperature is a bit warmer we are expecting some top weights.

This festival is also the first where we are allowing our new rules which include being allowed to use a method feeder, paste and mini boilies, how this will affect the festival we will just have to wait and see. There are a few new names on the festival this year and a few White Acres first timers as well as a number of familiar faces. Dynamite Baits are one of our longest festival sponsors and they have once again pledged a tremendous amount of bait prizes not only for the winners but also for all anglers that fish the festival.

Day One

The weekend was dryer and certainly a lot warmer down here so hopefully the weather should stay settled for the week, today was a mild but overcast, the morning draw was the usual scene of excitement and eagerness to crack on with the festival. The first draw is one of the most important of the week making sure all anglers are aware of their sections and the rules that they must adhere to. So with the introduction over the draw bags were opened and the hands went in, with pegs drawn the anglers were off for the first match so lets see how they got on and who our first front-runners are.

A Section Pollawyn
The fish spent most of last week moving round the lake and this has been the same today as we saw weights coming from different areas and areas that had not been fishing as well. The match today was won by Phil Ringer on peg 25 with 156lb 9oz, Phil caught on the method feeder. Richard Hall was second with 120lb 5oz; Richard was on peg 19 on the point and caught on the pellet waggler. Third on lake from unfancied peg 52 was Sandra Scotthorne, Sandra caught on the pole at 16 meters to the island loose feeding 6 mil pellets with pellet on the hook for a weight of 91lb 12oz. Rob Wooton on peg 24 had the next best weight with 87lb 13oz, Rob caught out in the open water on the pellet feeder.

Section Winners
Phil Ringer peg 25 9 points 156lb 9oz
Sandra Scotthorne peg 52 9 points 91lb 12oz
Rob Wootton peg 24 9 points 87lb 13oz
Andy Bennett peg 13 9 points 44lb 13oz

B Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal
Twin Oaks low numbers were once again off to a flying start to the festival and today’s lake winner was Chris Chadwick on peg 10 with 131lb 3oz, Chris caught on the pellet waggler. Second, also on Twin Oaks, was Jon Arthur, Jon was on peg 16 and had 28 fish on the method feeder and 2 down the edge for a weight of 118lb 1oz. The next best weight came also from Twin Oaks with Lee Prophet on peg 4 weighing in with 100lb 10oz, Lee caught on the pole with pellet. Ian Winter peg 35 9 points 48lb 1oz

C Section Trewaters
It is the first time we have used the venue this year, it has been used throughout the winter on local and league matches but today will be the first time it has seen this many match anglers since the Autumn festivals, when we first used the venue it was a very new lake and although it is still new the fishing has improved and this reflected today in the general weights. Dave Taylor was our lake winner today on peg 54, Dave caught on the pole at seven sections with pellet for a weight of 48lb 9oz. Second went to Neil McKinnon with 44lb 13oz, Neil caught on the pole at 4, 10 & 13 meters with pellet and feeding pellet with a bit of groundbait from peg 42. Third on peg 33 with 43lb 10oz was Andy May. Andy caught on expanded micro pellets on the waggler. Andy May peg 33 9 points 43lb 10oz
Steve Ringer peg 30 9 points 41lb 5oz

D Section Porth
The weights on Porth seem to be better today and hopefully this will continue throughout the week although some of the anglers are having problems with the pike that have become a bit more active since bait has started to go into the lake on a regular basis. The match winner today was Steve Conroy on peg 40, Steve caught on the pole with casters for a weight of 22lb 9oz. Second with 16lb 11oz was Jez Goldthorpe, Jez was on peg 32 and caught on the pole short with caster and also on the waggler. Mark Leader was third on peg 77 with 13lbs; Mark caught on the pole at 11.5 meters with worms and fed casters. Paul Burton peg 17 9 points 11lb 5oz

E Section Bolingey
Bolingey was off to a great start to the festival with 14 weights over 80lb recorded today. The lake can be a bit “peggy” which is why we split the sections up to ensure everyone gets a fair shot at the section wins. Ian Harper was the lake winner today on peg 19, Ian caught on the pellet waggler for a weight of 141lb 12oz. Second with 130lb 7oz was Stephen Barraclough, Stephen was on peg 22 and caught down the edge short on meat. Well what a line up we have after day one, some seasoned festival entrants and some new comers, fingers crossed for all that they have bought their drawing arms with them and that they can carry on with their good luck for the rest of the week. A section win on day one is always a massive booster for the confidence and any thing less than a section win is a kick up the bum for others so who knows where we will go from here. Stay tuned for more daily reports from the Dynamite festival 2009.

Day Two

Off we go again on the second day of the festival, day one got off to a good start and the lakes are fishing fairly, it was predicted that by using the method it would “take the place apart” but this is not the case at the moment, the method is making a bit of difference but the traditional methods used by the anglers here are all working well too. So after a promising start to day one for some it was full steam ahead at the draw and for others it would be a game of catch up hoping for a better draw today. Read on for the action from day two.

A Section Twin Oaks/Acorn/Canal
The weights were lower today across the four lakes but they fished fairly for section points especially Acorn and Canal. The lake winner today was Nick Jones on Twin Oaks peg 16, Nick caught on the pellet feeder with 8 mil pellets on the hook for a weight of 124lb 9oz. John Pantry was second with 82lb 14oz, John was on Twin Oaks peg 14 and caught on the pellet waggler. Andy Bennett was on Acorn peg 7 and was third with 79lb 3oz. Andy caught on 6 mil pellets to the island. Sean Huggins was on Twin Oaks peg 4 and had the next best weight, Sean caught on the pellet feeder and weighed in with 73lb 12oz. Ben Rhodes had the best weight on the high numbers of Twin Oaks with 56lb 8oz from peg 23 and the highest weight that came from Canal was 62lb 15oz and this came from Gary Vincent on peg 2,

The Lake winner today was Miles Day with 78lb 2oz, Miles was on peg 54 and caught on the pole at 5 meters and in the margins with pellet. Second on peg 39 was Derek Hammond, Derek caught on the waggler and maggot for a weight of 46lb 14oz. C Section Porth
The weights were really tight on Porth today and we had double section wins in two of the sections with anglers joint on weight. It was a day of mixed fortunes for the anglers with some managing to seek out the bigger bream and perch to boost their weights whist others had to settle for the normal “bits”. The lake winner today was Lee Kerry on peg 33, caught on the waggler with caster for a weight of 14lb 14oz. Second on the lake with 14lb 7oz was Andy May, Andy was on peg 38 and caught on the waggler & slider with caster. Paul Gorman peg 87 9 points 11lb 2oz

D Section Bolingey
It was also a tougher day on Bolingey and we did not really see any of the prolific weights that we are used too. Mark Leader was the lake winner today, mark was on peg 21 and caught on meat down the edge at 11.5 meters weighing in with 125lb 1oz. Second on the lake with 102lb 1oz was Dean Smith, Dean was on peg 25 and caught on the pellet waggler & bomb to the island and meat at 6 meters. Charlie Mayers peg 49 9 points 72lb 1oz
Steve Conway peg 29 9 points 67lb 12oz

E Section Pollawyn
Pollawyn fished well today and the weights were tight across the board. The fish are definitely on the move again and you are once again looking to draw a point or the centre of the high bank to win the match. Our lake winner today came from peg 19 where Russell Grimes weighed in with 145lb 8oz, Russell caught on the pellet waggler up in the water and straight lead bomb with 8 mil pellets. Marc Jones was second on the lake with 98lb, Marc was on peg 23 and caught on the pole at 16 meters to the island with 6 mil pellets and had a long lined flick rig to the island with 6 mil pellets also. Third on the lake on peg 17 was Alan Scotthorne, Alan caught on the method feeder and the pole with pellet for a weight of 83lb 7oz. The next best weight came from Stephen Barraclough on peg 21, Stephen weighed in with 78lb 15oz caught on the pellet waggler.

Section Winners
Russell Grimes peg 19 9 points 145lb 8oz
Marc Jones peg 23 9 points 98lb
Gary Webber peg 43 9 points 53lb 9oz
Colin Scott peg 13 9 points 49lb 1oz

So that was day two and here is how our top twenty looks.

  Name Weight Points
1st Mark Leader 138lb 1oz 18 points
2nd Andy Bennett 124lb 18 points
3rd Steve Conway 90lb 5oz 18 points

13th Ian Harper 177lb 8oz 16 points
14th Pemb Wrighting 153lb 13oz 16 points
15th Jon Arthur 152lb 1oz 16 points
16th Sandra Scotthorne 141lb 8oz 16 points

18th Joe Carass
107lb 15oz 16 points
19th Bryan Travis 105lb 6oz 16 points
20th Charlie Mayers 80lb 12oz 16 points

So five anglers have bagged themselves a perfect point score after two days but the points and weights all across the top twenty are all very close. As we have seen before dropping a point or missing out by a few pounds could make all the difference at the end of the week so watch this space for the next daily update.

Day Three

So the mid-way point of the festival is upon us and it has been a tough day for some, bad draws have seen a few of the favourites drop back and has opened up the field for others. Today has been the mildest day we have had here for a while but the glare from the sun on the lakes isn’t doing anyone any favours. Read on for the match action from day three.

A Section Trewaters
It was a tougher day for some on the lake today with the wind blowing the fish to the ends of the lakes, a good draw today for some meant reasonable weights but at the other end the anglers were struggling for bites. Paul Burton was today lake winner on peg 23, Paul caught on the long pole with pellet weighing in with 112lb 14oz. Second on the lake with 80lb 3oz was Dean Smith, Dean was on peg 26 and caught on the pellet waggler. Darren Marder was third on peg 15 with 77lb 15oz, Darren caught on the pellet waggler. 18th Dean Smith 189lb 12oz 22 points
19th Sandra Scotthorne 156lb 10oz 22 points
20th Gary Vincent 135lb 22 points

So Ian Winter is currently our only angler with a perfect score, it has definitely been a day of mixed fortunes with some hoping today they have said goodbye to their dropped result! Two days left and it is still an open book, a bad draw for Ian or a good draw for any of the other top 20 and then things could be all change once again. Tomorrow is the penultimate day of the festival and that tends to draft out the top twenty but in what order? Stay tuned for more match reports tomorrow.

Day Four

Despite starting with a frost it turned into a sunny penultimate day of the festival. It has been a tough day for some with Porth & Bolingey fishing particularly harder than in previous days. Yesterday we saw a change in the top twenty and what will today bring? Read on to see who goes into the final day with decent points behind them and who needs a bit of a boost.

Final Day

The final day of the festival was a scene of excitement and anticipation, the field was still wide open and by picking up a 9 point section win today could result on any of the current top 12 anglers winning the festival. The Dynamite Bait team were at the draw to hand out goodie bags to all the anglers fishing the festival this week, the generous goodie bags included the new Source range of pellets, groundbait, soft hookers & paste. Once again it was mild for the final day and we have been lucky to avoid the forecasted rain.
